Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$27.841 - $34.802 - $41.763

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

To ensure proper maintenance and distribution of disposable supplies and durable medical equipment for patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent GED is required. If offered this position, then you will be asked to please provide proof of your high school diploma or GED.

  • 1 Year experience in an acute care hospital, sterile processing, or surgery department or completion of a program for sterile processing/central supply technician

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) - The Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution -PREFERRED

Essential Functions

  • CommunicationPerformance Criteria:Reports any malfunctions or questionable loads to the Lead Technician or Supervisor.Provides appropriate information to facilitate receipt of MSDS.Maintains necessary verbal communication via clear shift reports and communication logs.Notifies SPD lead/Nursing units of positive biologicals/wet loads, equipment malfunctions.Obtains approval from resource/charge nurse to process incomplete sets.Evaluation Method(s)Observation, Demonstration, Documentation Review, Staff Feedback.

  • DocumentationPerformance Criteria:Documents sterilizer load contents/applies load labels to itemsUsing charts and printouts to track sterilizer loads, including biological and vacuum testingDocuments results of biologic and vacuum testingDocuments actions in the event of load recallLabels all implantables for quick identification for quarantineAssures accurate labeling of instruments/sets.Evaluation Method(s):Demonstration, Documentation Review, Quality Monitoring.

  • Instrument processingPerformance Criteria:Disassembles multipart instrumentsSeparates heavy and delicate instrumentsProperly cares for powered, lensed and special instruments/ equipmentInspects instruments/instrument trays for broken, damaged or missing instrumentsReassembles trays, protecting sharp/delicate/heavy instruments, checks for cleanlinessLabels trays according to type, includes count sheets with traysProperly loads and operates washer sterilizer, sonic cleaners, steam, plasma, parasitic acid and other sterilizing equipment'Demonstrates knowledge of SPD equipment, assists users with concerns or questions.Properly quarantine implantables until biological monitors are reviewed.Evaluation Method(s):Observation, Quality Monitoring Documentation Review.

  • SuppliesPerformance Criteria:Restocks carts as assignedPrepares case carts for surgery according to pick lists/preference cards as assigned.Reports low stock/overstock, outagesRequests/orders non stock items/supplies as needed/assignedRequests/orders sterilization supplies, including charts, testing materials, wraps, case filters/locks, tape

  • Time and resource managementPerformance Criteria:Uses resources in a cost-effective mannerAnticipates surgical needs and prepares instrumentation accordingly.Willingly accepts additional assignments and remains flexible with work practices.Completes delegated duties within time frames or reports to supervisor when unable.Evaluation Method(s):Observation, Demonstration, Documentation Review.

  • Thorough knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile techniques, general hospital supplies and equipment
