CNC Machine Lead

Job Dimensions:

Job Summary: Under general supervision, the CNC Machine Lead is responsible for leading, training, assigning, and coordinating work. This role involves demonstrating and explaining machining techniques and work procedures while performing other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Machine Shop Manager

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Coordination: Monitors manufacturing operations within the CNC machine area, leading and coordinating the activities of the team.
  • Machine Operation: Sets up and operates CNC machines and other related equipment efficiently.
  • Resource Management: Manages requests for tool and supply purchases. Monitors usage on the floor to prevent waste.
  • Problem Resolution: Reviews general machine shop-related issues with management, engineering, and programming. Provides clear and concise feedback to resolve problems effectively.
  • Training: Trains operators on how to effectively, efficiently, and safely set up and operate shop equipment, including but not limited to CNC machines, cranes, hand tools/power tools, and measuring equipment.
  • Performance Management: Reads, interprets, and evaluates employee performance via production-related reports. Monitors and takes initiative based on data such as quality reports, key performance indicators, and safety data to enforce peak performance.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensures strict adherence to company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications Guidelines:

Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:

Experience/Training/Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

  • 5-7 years experience within a machine shop environment.
  • 3-5 years experience in a leadership position preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Advanced ability to analyze and solve machining and work process problems.
  • Proficient in CNC machine setup and operation.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, schematics, and manufacturing and engineering drawings.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Capable of training, developing, and supervising subordinates.
  • Familiar with quality control inspection methods and casting layout work.
  • Ability to read various production-related reports
  • Ability to use ERP/MRP systems effectively
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to bend, reach, lift, move, and carry tools and materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to reach and adjust equipment control settings.
  • Ability to perform all essential job functions, reasonable accommodations available upon request.

Special Requirements:

  • An acceptable set of machinist's tools may be required.
  • Safety shoes required
