Roles and Responsibilities of Fiberline Superintendent

Covington Mill in Covington, VA

Position Title: Fiberline Superintendent - Covington

Primary Area of Responsibility: Responsible and accountable for all Woodyard, Unbleached Pulp Mill, Bleached Pulp Mill, and Waste Water Treatment Plant operations, personnel, safety, environmental impact, cost center, quality and production requirements. Manages the departments to produce quality products in a safe, productive, and cost-efficient manner. Major equipment consists of chipping operation, rail car and chip operations, batch digesters, pulp line operation, O2 delignification, chlorine dioxide generator, and an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant.

Primary Job Duties:

Safety

· Actively promotes and participates in all elements of the safety program, encouraging involvement from his/her crew members in current safety programs. Understands and enforces Covington Mill safety policies and procedures; ensuring that all department personnel are aware of and adhere to safety policies and procedures.

· Initiates accident/incident investigation in the Fiberline areas.

· Performs audits and addresses deficiencies in housekeeping and safety related inspections.

· Leads DMS meetings with general safety discussion and solicits input from department personnel.

General

§ Manage production resources and interface with other departments to maintain efficient Woodyard, Pulping, Bleaching, and Wastewater Treatment Plant operations.

§ Participation in the daily operations meeting, reporting on safety, quality, productivity, and environmental concerns.

§ Manage performance, and development of department employees

§ Ensure proper company/ union relations according to current labor contract.

· Administers the capital budget for the Fiberline department. Works with department supervisors and engineers to establish priorities.

· Promotes Process Safety Management (PSM) for CLO2 plant, methanol, and Turpentine Recovery System.

· Actively promotes use of Daily Management System (DMS) guidelines.

· Ensure procedures are in place and followed for proactive communication with paper machines when pulp problems occur that may cause quality issues.

· Implementation of recommendations to help improve cost and quality.

· Minimize unexpected downtime in the Woodyard, Unbleached Pulp Mill, Bleached Pulp Mill, and Waste Water Treatment Plant by effective maintenance planning.

· Efficiently plan scheduled outages between the Woodyard, Unbleached Pulp Mill, Bleached Pulp Mill, Recovery Area, Waste Water Treatment Plant, and Paper machines.

· Lead cost reduction efforts for areas of responsibility, sponsoring projects from annual mill diagnostic in the department.

· Manage operating and maintenance costs within the budget.

· Understand and abide by environmental policies established by SW, the state of Virginia and Federal environmental laws.

Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies:

· A college degree is strongly recommended or a minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience in Fiberline related position.

· Experience with Fiberline and Woodyard operations.

· Experience with wastewater treatment plant operations.

· General understanding of mill wide operations and interdependency.

· Understanding the Covington Mill Quality Policy and Environmental Policy.

· Communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization.

· Clearly define objectives/KPIs and be effective in the achievement of those objectives.

· Must be dedicated to continuous improvements in the Fiberline department with special emphasis on safety, quality, environment, production, and cost.

Other Position Requirements

· Available, as needed, outside of normal working hours if departmental or mill issues arise.

· Call and weekend duty required
