About the Position: Position is with the Joint Munitions Command located at Crane Army Ammunition Activity and serves as a Welder. Responsibilities Cleans surfaces of metals to be welded by using solvents, emery cloth and steel brushes. Operates direct current electric, Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG), Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG), gas (oxyacetylene), and spotweld welding equipment. Shall be qualified to set up and operate both hand, flame cutting, and plasma cutting machines. Cut all types and thickness of various metal material in making straight, circular, or angular cuts. Performs all types of silver soldering, such as setting carbide tips on Cutting tools. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Welder without more than normal supervision. I can fabricate, assemble, modify, and repair various metals and alloy parts; I can also weld commonly used metals, including dissimilar ones of various sizes, shapes, and thickness; and I can work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Metals Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: At Grade level 08, Grade level 10 and Grade level 11. The work involves standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions such as when welding in hard-to-reach places, welders frequently handle objects weighing from 20 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, objects weighing more than 50 pounds, in setting up work and equipment and in completing assignments. This position must be able to lift 15-50 pounds. Most of work is performed from a standing position. Other physical activity involved is sitting, walking, stooping and bending. This level is assessed at the WG-10 level. WORKING CONDITIONS: At Grade level 08, Grade level 10 and Grade level 11. The work is done indoors and outdoors, sometimes in bad weather, in areas that may vary from "clean rooms" to areas that are noisy, dirty, and smoky. Welding involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches and heated materials, the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. There is discomfort when wearing protective clothing, gloves, and flash shield or eye goggles. This position works in an adequately heated, lighted and ventilated workshop. Is subject to burns from welding sparks and handling hot metal. Is required to wear protective clothing, safety glasses and shoes and face shields to minimize danger of injuries to eyes, hands and feet. This level is assessed at the WG-10 level. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) Logistics Career Field position.
