Union County College Faculty – Practical Nursing in Cranford, New Jersey

Union County College is a public comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the oldest of New Jerseys 19 Associate Degree Colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Many programs lead to the Associate in Arts, Science and Applied Science degrees.

General Description:

Faculty member’s responsibilities shall be teaching courses as assigned, student advisement, assistance with registration, participation on College committees and involvement in professional development activities.

Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaches assigned courses in accordance with description published in catalog and the approved course outline, in accordance with schedule of classes, and incorporating alternative approaches, technologies and methods that engage students.

  • Meets all scheduled class meetings and all scheduled office hours.

  • Advises Dean of absences in a timely manner.

  • Maintains accurate grade and attendance records for students enrolled in classes, enter grades and attendance in Canvas and submits required reports to Dean and/or Student Records Office.

  • Cooperates with Dean in developing and revising courses of study and curricula.

  • Integrates an appreciation of diversity, equity, and inclusion into courses.

  • · Submits progress reports on students for advising and record keeping purposes and discusses with advisors and other appropriate personnel student issues.

  • Advises students and/or performs special assigned duties related to registration. Serves as faculty advisor to student organizations (voluntary) and provides for interaction with students outside the classroom environment.

  • Engages in assessment of learning outcomes and demonstrates the use of the results of these assessments in course revision.

  • Serves on college-wide committees.

  • Attends scheduled division and general faculty and staff meetings.

  • Ensures availability of supplies, textbooks, and classroom equipment requisite to successful teaching of assigned classes.

  • Incorporates the use of the library into courses.

  • Uses writing as an instructional method.

  • Utilizes computing and other academic technologies in courses.

  • Engages in continual professional development activities as specified by the appropriate Dean or academic officer.

  • Attends convocation and graduation exercises.

  • Adheres to professional standards.

  • Adheres to College policies and procedures.

  • Represents the College in the community.

Education Requirements:

Master’s degree required in Nursing, current NJ RN License, CPR certification at BLS Level.

Official college transcripts must be submitted prior to interview.

Experience:

College-level teaching experience in the discipline.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

· This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

· Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

· No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

· Some travel required.
