Actalent Mechanical Engineer in Crete, Illinois

Job Description:

We are seeking a mechanical engineer to join our university park team on a 6-12 month contract to support our plant expansion. This individual will be responsible for refurbishing, replacing, and reusing existing equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design of Rail Welding Systems and Support Equipment to meet internal and external customer needs.

  • Provide sound designs, which meet requirements of project specifications.

  • Generate project Bills of Material and Drawings for release through the IFS production system.

  • Work closely with other divisions and external customers to progress the construction of equipment to meet project needs.

  • Perform design calculations, as required by spec, or to verify design integrity.

  • Document any equipment and process-related changes.

  • Support improvements and upgrades to current and future systems.

  • Provide troubleshooting and repair assistance to all internally developed welding systems and other related equipment.

  • Utilize Failure Mode Effects Analysis to optimize designs.

  • Participate and assist in R&D projects related to Welding Group and its end products.

  • Utilize NCR, OFI, and Quality Control Program.

  • Travel unscheduled to various site locations for troubleshooting emergencies with minimum notice.

  • Work in full compliance with safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Be compliant with all operating policies and guidelines.

Essential Skills:

  • SolidWorks proficiency

  • Mechanical engineering

  • Utilize engineering Best Practices for product design and development from concept to field start-up

  • Experience with ERP systems

  • Knowledge of hydraulics and industrial machinery

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • BSME or degree in a related field strongly preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in structural, mechanical, and hydraulic areas of machine design

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in 3D Drafting (SolidWorks preferred)

  • Weld and weld metallurgy experience preferred

  • Robotics experience is a plus

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00
