If you are a Product Engineer looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you! Based out of our Cudahy, WI location, you will be responsible for Engineering design of Vilter's Configure-To-Order Single Screw and Reciprocating compressor units. This includes implementing improved features, cost reductions, and design-for-manufacturing. The Product Engineer selects components and configures the units to better meet customers’ expectations, support manufacturing, and ensure that Vilter compression systems comply with applicable codes.

AS A PRODUCT ENGINEER, YOU WILL:

  • Review component and system design of Refrigeration and Gas compression equipment. Makes recommendations for improvements to meet performance and cost reduction criteria.

  • Reviews design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements, and related codes and specifications.

  • Directs and oversees the completion of the necessary engineering documents to satisfy requirements set by internal and external customer's requirements.

  • Consult with sales to determine degree of compliance with customer expectations and design requirements. Supports integration of quotation tools with product configurator in the ERP system.

  • Reviews and interprets codes and standards (ASME, UL, CRN, NFPA, AWS, etc.) for system compliance.

  • Reviews and approves production drawings, adding recommendations to enhance design, reduce costs, or increase production efficiency.

  • Works with suppliers and outside engineering consultants to resolve technical and supply issues, and improve system features and capabilities; investigates sources of special equipment, material, or devices. Obtains quotes, prepares requisitions, and qualifies supplier components.

  • Contributes as a technical resource to the shop, customers, sales, and other departments to address and resolve questions and problems.

  • Leads cross functional teams to improve design features, resolve problems and ensure the continuous, ongoing improvement of processes and methods related to the standard units.

  • Technical support for Vilter projects and equipment. Presentations at training schools, trade shows and customers to support sales. Job-site visits to develop project insights and “hands on” understanding of completed projects. Service and troubleshooting to address field application and product issues

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering

  • A minimum of one to three (1-3) years of related experience.

  • Experience communicating technical concepts clearly and concisely in writing and other presentation formats.

  • Working knowledge of 3-D modeling software (Inventor, SolidWorks or Creo).

  • Interest in Energy, Thermodynamics, Product Design and Manufacturing processes.

  • Willingness to learn handle a broad range of products and applications, as well as manufacturing BOM structure and ERP systems.

  • Capable of learning and effectively using Quotation Software, Drawing Software and ERP system.

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to coordinate and work within diverse teams to implement changes and improvements with little guidance.

  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite applications

  • Must be a team player, willing to learn from experienced staff and capable of introducing positive changes.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Interest in pressure vessel and piping code compliance (ASME Section VIII and B31), as well as international requirements (CRN, PED).

  • Industry experience in Refrigeration, HVAC, Power or Energy.

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical components, piping systems, controls or other industrial equipment.

Working Conditions:

This position works primarily in an office environment, but does have frequent exposure to the manufacturing floor, where they will be exposed to noise, fumes, airborne particles, etc.
