UPMC Western Maryland has an exciting opportunity for a casual Professional Staff Nurse in our Obstetrics Department! If youre looking to gain more hours as a Registered Nurse and have a love for supporting mothers and their new babies, make sure to take a look at the details below!

Heres what we are looking for:

  • Someone looking for flexible hours, at least 36 hours every 6 weeks
  • A Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience
  • Prior obstetrics/nursery experience is definitely a plus, but not a requirement!

Below is a little bit about what youll do:

  • System-wide Competencies: Adheres to system-wide behaviors and performs other assigned duties.
  • Clinical Development: Engages in clinical development and RN residency programs, seeks learning opportunities, and utilizes feedback to improve practice.
  • Patient Education: Identifies and addresses patient and family education needs.
  • Professional Development: Pursues continuous learning, professional development, and involvement in nursing organizations.
  • Nursing Care: Applies nursing knowledge within Relationship Based Care, communicates effectively, and demonstrates critical thinking.
  • Care Planning: Formulates care plans and daily goals, seeks guidance, and builds compassionate relationships with patients and colleagues.
  • Ethical Practice: Identifies ethical situations and seeks assistance.
  • Research and Quality Improvement: Demonstrates basic research knowledge, participates in journal clubs, and identifies improvement opportunities.
  • Accountability: Takes responsibility for professional development, makes care improvement recommendations, and participates in change initiatives.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: Builds healthy relationships, sets priorities, participates in shared governance, and supports colleagues.
  • Communication and Safety: Communicates clearly, demonstrates cultural awareness, and supports workplace safety.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of various ages.
  • Understand principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret information to identify age-specific needs.
  • Provide care as described in department policy and procedures.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Work productively and effectively within a complex environment.
  • Handle multiple and changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exhibit good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to patient care.
  • Possess critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in the application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
