We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Machine Learning Engineer specializing in speech and audio technologies to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in the evaluation and enhancement of our product's speech and audio capabilities. They will collaborate closely with multi-functional teams to implement and optimize speech and audio, ensuring the highest level of quality, performance, accuracy, and scalability. This role offers a great opportunity to contribute to the advancement of AI systems and shape the future of computing. As a Machine Learning Engineer within the Siri team, you will define new approaches for evaluating speech and audio to enhance product capabilities. You will collaborate with various language engineers, modeling teams, and product managers to conduct thorough evaluation and analysis of speech and audio. Your expertise in defining and measuring the quality and intelligibility of a speech signal will help communicate, evaluate, and iterate on innovative deployed models and predictors.
Description
This Siri team leads the development of advanced evaluation methodologies for ML based systems, model interpretability, and experimentation, to ensure that every release delivers an improved Siri user experience. The team is searching for versatile ML Engineers to work with a passionate, product-focused team to define innovative approaches for evaluating ML based systems, and model interpretability. You will run experiments, statistically interpret data with a mind on causation, data visualization, plus designing, building, and evaluating models.
Minimum Qualifications
7+ years of professional work experience applying machine learning to real-world problems with a focus on speech and audio technologies.
Excellent programming skills in Python, and experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
In-depth knowledge of natural language processing//text-to-speech.
Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and data analysis skills. Strong attention to detail. Proven track record to dive into data to discover hidden patterns and conduct error/deviation analysis
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-functional team environment.
Domain knowledge in applied statistics and experiment design are a big plus!
Enthusiasm for continuing to learn innovative techniques in natural language processing/machine learning/speech.
Key Qualifications
6+ years as Software Development Engineer.
4+ years of Designing and Architecting tools and frameworks.
Experienced in Machine Learning.
Excellent leadership in driving the development of tools and frameworks driven towards excellence in quality.
Shown problem solving and debugging skills: analyze and investigate test failures, errors, and build issues, able to accurately drive issues to completion and support issues with data.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong background in A/B testing procedure, causal analysis, and cohort analysis.
Exposure to model interpretability techniques and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
Good Conversational AI domain knowledge
Experience working with end-to-end pipelines and/or crowd-sourced data labeling
Education & Experience
M.S. or PhD in natural language processing/machine learning/speech or Computer Science related field or equivalent work experience.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
