Naval Facilities Engineering Command MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in Dahlgren, Virginia

Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Responsibilities You will plan and complete projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation. You will be required to work from blueprints, sketches, and oral instructions given by the supervisor. You will repair defects including framing, structural work, sheathing, insulation, and waterproofing. You will perform construction, repair, alteration and modification of items and structures such as doors, staircases, windows, interior and exterior trim, and associated building structures. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the WG-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Tracing leaks, pinpointing the leak area, and removing old roofing to get to the source of leak; 2) Determining, planning, and laying out the work to be done from sketches and blueprints; 3) Constructing or repairing a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, wall, staircase, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, and miscellaneous items such as work benches, counter tops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, computer consoles, and items requiring limited decorative trim and molding; and 4) Interpreting work orders, oral instructions, or maintenance complaints, accomplishing assigned tasks following established work procedures, and accepted trade practices. Must be able to work overtime as required as call-back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of the position. Working Conditions: Incumbent works on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and where parts of the system may be in hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions. Work will progress through all weather conditions, and it is the responsibility of the incumbent to work effectively and safely during these times. Physical Effort: Physical effort is moderate to heavy and includes: prolonged standing, climbing ladders and scaffolds, working in cramped and awkward positions, lifting and bending while using hand and power tools. Position requires frequent lifting, carrying, and setting up of tools, and equipment and parts that my weigh over 50 pounds. Weight lifted does not usually exceed 50 pounds; however, s/he may be required to have other employees assist if lifting more than 50 pounds.
