4/10-hour shifts (some days may be longer due to required meetings and patient volume and needs) Late morning to late evening

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Participates in direct patient care as an active member of the clinical and surgical team at SRC including but not limited to pre-surgical assessments, H&Ps, pain management planning and medication management and consults

  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychosocial and psychological status

  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results

  • Consults as needed with other healthcare professionals, patients, and families in the formulation and initiation of the healthcare plan

  • Evaluates patient response to interventions and modifies care plan as necessary to achieve desired outcomes

  • Utilization of advanced knowledge to provide clinical leadership to other healthcare professionals through mentoring, education, and clinical consultation

  • Recognizes educational knowledge needs of peers or nursing staff and participates in educational activities to meet identified needs such as case conferences, symposia and informal huddles in collaboration with nursing education team

  • Familiar with education resources or other psychosocial resources available to patients and families

  • Responds to all consults in a timely manner as indicated by protocol or policy

  • Documents and signs medical records, forms and letters in a timely manner as indicated by protocol or policy

  • Participates in mortality and morbidity conferences, performance improvement and quality activities as assigned

  • Discharge planning

    Required Skills/Abilities

  • Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited advanced practice registered nursing program (APRN) or physician assistant (PA) program and are certified through a recognized accrediting agency and hold a current Texas license.

  • Current APRN or PA certification required

  • Texas license or eligible for Texas licensure

  • BLS/PALS required (PALS can be completed in the first 30 days of hire)

  • One year of clinical experience as a NP/PA required (experience in pain management, pediatric complex care, pediatric Post-surgery or ICU care)
