JOB SUMMARY

The Automotive Mechanic is accountable for periodic servicing of fleet vehicles which includes, but is not limited to, oil changes, refilling the fluids, examining belts, hoses, tires, and battery for normal wear and tear, and other basic maintenance on vehicles. This position may be asked to do minor repairs and to troubleshoot root causes of problems found with the vehicles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Performs a wide range of tasks relative to basic auto repair and periodic servicing of vehicles in the fleet. Diagnoses the root cause of problems found in the vehicle.

  • Repairs as appropriate or refers the vehicle for more extensive repair and maintenance to the proper outside auto servicing agent, such as the local dealer for the particular vehicle.

  • Discusses the proper care and maintenance with the person assigned to use the vehicle. Creates a schedule for periodic maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotation for each vehicle based on mileage and works with the assigned driver to adhere to the schedule created. May need to test drive the vehicle to establish the problem and again following repair and maintenance to make sure the repair work is proper and complete and that no other problems have surfaced.

  • Basic maintenance and minor repairs must be completed professionally and in a timely way, minimizing the vehicles time lost from service and the drivers need to use a loaner vehicle.

  • Accurately and legibly accounts for productive time using the departments maintenance record keeping system. Maintains separate records on each vehicle.

  • Maintains daily records of personal productive time spent working on vehicles and reports these activities to ensure accurate recording of departmental and vehicular activities.

  • Processes service requests and turns in completed service work in a timely and professional way. With management?s approval, may order necessary parts, devices, etc. to properly repair or complete assigned service orders. May be required to either manually or electronically process or complete service orders.

  • Ensures proper care of equipment and tools issued for maximum effectiveness. Diligently maintains all tools and equipment in a clean, safe, and working order. With input from the manager, maintains an adequate inventory of related supplies and parts to perform assigned duties.

  • Adheres to all safety requirements and wears the proper Personal Protective Equipment required by the job. Responds to emergencies to ensure employee, patient and facility safety. Champions overall safety in the department. Reports possible safety issues and recommends appropriate changes. Complies with OSHA, and other local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Maintains a friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Graduate of a certified Auto Repair program preferred. Must be willing to continue learning about the latest technologies used in the automotive sector and advanced repair technologies.

  • The position requires working with basic tools and computerized systems, or ability to learn and use computerized systems, as required.

  • Must maintain a safe driving record.

  • Must maintain technical skills and any required certifications to perform job duties.

  • Physically able to maneuver in tight or cramped spaces with good visual acuity and hand dexterity.

  • Ability to interact and communicate, verbally and in writing, with all staff and management in English in a positive and professional way. Must be able to comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos and other forms of verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to deal with difficult situations, resolve issues and concerns in a professional way.

  • Ability to work and accomplish tasks in a stressful, fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

  • EXPERIENCE - 1 Year of Experience

  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

  • Drivers License (TXDL): If moving from out of state must obtain valid TX DL within 90 days of hire.
