Resettlement and Placement Program:

The Resettlement and Placement Program at IRC intakes refugee clients at the airport and, for the first 90 days in the country, provides families the coaching to achieve self-sufficiency.

The program works with the housing team to find the client living accommodations, enrolls children in school, obtains SS Cards, enroll families in public benefit programs, take families to refugee clinic, and provide necessary coaching so that clients can navigate living alone in the U.S. Guiding clients to self-sufficiency is the primary goal of this program.

Intern Responsibilities: Arrive in the office and be assigned to any of the above-mentioned tasks by a caseworker that they would work with during the workday. The intern would often assist in driving clients to appointments, delivering mail, writing case notes, and applying for public benefits.

Interns will have the opportunity to gain greater insight into the resettlement process for refugees in the Dallas area. IRC places a strong focus on hiring from our intern pool- if you are eager to break into international relations, political science, or are looking for nonprofit experience, this internship is for you. This position isclient-facing.

Qualifications

Must be willing to drive clients in their own car if necessary. Position isunpaid, but mileage is reimbursed for interns. Interns must work at least 15 hours/week during the 8:30 am - 4:30 pm work week, but interns set their own schedules. Strong preference given to those that speak Spanish, Arabic, Dari/Farsi, or Burmese, but no particular language skill is required.
