We are seeking a Director of Estimating to join our Pre-Construction team in the Sioux Falls, SD or the Dallas, TX area. The Director of Estimating will be responsible for preparing detailed project timelines incorporating factors such as labor, materials, budgets, and potential hurtles and setbacks. This role will collaborate with project teams and subcontractors to ensure accurate and timely deliverables.

The Role

  • Partners with consultants, contractors, accountants and operations personnel to provide the most accurate and comprehensive financial and budget analysis

  • Analyzes requirement documents, blueprints and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the type of project in order to prepare a bid strategy (project types may include BAU, project bid, long-haul, FTTH, or wireless)

  • Estimates quantity take-offs from engineering & construction drawings

  • Creates crew costs using production, methods, and location-based information.

  • Determines what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product

  • Prepares material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service

  • Negotiates, manages, or requests material and labor pricing from internal and/or external sources

  • Creates labor estimates for each project

  • Prepares material submittals

  • Develops and maintains relationships with company vendors and contractors

  • Manages bids from vendors and contractors

  • Uses bid data to prepare detailed cost analysis

  • Understands project related taxes, fees and bonds

  • Presents prepared estimates to management and other stakeholders

  • Compiles and records actual costs

  • Consolidates subcontractor, vendor, and internal prices for full project financial summary

  • Outlines financial summary for projects including assumptions, clarifications, and exclusions

  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in construction, construction estimating or equivalent experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field a plus

  • Strong knowledge of construction project specifications and the estimation process

  • Proficiency in mathematics, statistics and data analysis

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Report writing and strategic planning skills

  • Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for large projects

  • Expertise with analytic tools, such as spreadsheets and database managers

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents

  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Exceptional time management skill

  • Strong communication and organization skills

  • Strong computer skills using MS Office

  • Ability to travel up to 25% annually

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Passing of all pre-employment requirements (MVR, Background Check, Drug Screen)

Salary Description

$100K - $200K annually, DOE
