Amazon Software Development Manager, Strategic Risk Insights - Data and Engineering in Dallas, Texas

We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead and grow our engineering team within the Strategic Risk Insights (SRI) organization. This role will lead a team of software developers responsible for building innovative solutions that leverage AWS technologies and Generative AI to enhance security risk management capabilities across Amazon.

As the Software Development Manager, you will drive technical strategy, mentor and develop software engineers, and ensure delivery of high-quality cloud-native applications. You'll be responsible for establishing engineering best practices, driving architectural decisions, and creating a culture of technical excellence. The role requires strong leadership in agile development practices, CI/CD implementation, and cloud architecture, while partnering with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives.

Key job responsibilities

1) Lead and mentor a team of software developers, fostering technical excellence, career growth, and a culture of innovation while ensuring delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions for the Strategic Risk Insights platform.

2) Drive technical strategy and architectural decisions, ensuring best practices in cloud architecture, security, and data engineering while aligning solutions with business objectives and stakeholder needs.

3) Establish and maintain development standards, including code quality, testing protocols, and security practices, while overseeing the implementation of robust CI/CD pipelines and AWS infrastructure.

4) Partner with cross-functional leaders to define technical roadmaps, resource requirements, and delivery timelines while ensuring effective communication and collaboration across teams.

5) Manage team capacity, sprint planning, and technical debt while balancing new feature development with platform stability and operational excellence.

6) Oversee the implementation of security best practices and compliance requirements, ensuring all solutions meet Amazon's security standards and industry regulations.

7) Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and methodologies while staying current with emerging technologies and AWS services that could benefit the team.

8) Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, providing regular updates on team progress, technical challenges, and strategic initiatives while ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
