Position Overview

Shaw Industries is seeking a Staff Engineer with emphasis on electrical focus. Under the limited direction of the Engineering Manager, this Electrical-Focused Staff Engineer position is primarily responsible and accountable for project development, design, and execution. Work is often multi-disciplined and requires close coordination with manufacturing management as well as other corporate departments and outside agencies. While project assignments may at times focus on other disciplines such as mechanical and piping, the primary focus of this position is electrical and power systems. The Staff Engineer collects design criteria, prepares detailed schedules, prepares technical specifications, develops engineering designs, assembles project estimates, creates engineered drawings including electrical one-line diagrams, and utilizes project management tools to ensure projects meet safety, quality, performance, and budget requirements.

Responsibilities:

· Project Development and Administration:

o Develop and execute capital and expensed projects, sometimes large and complex, with detailed scopes of work, detailed schedules, and appropriations-grade budgets.

o Solicit detailed stakeholder design criteria and translates same into actionable technical designs, plans, and scope elements to ensure achievement of project objectives.

o Partner with project stakeholders to develop project options and proposals to facilitate decision-making by business leaders

o Develop and submit detailed documentation required to solicit project approval through online project administration software tools.

o Maintain project files and publish periodic project reports.

· Project Management and Execution:

o Consistently apply technical standards, engineering best practices, project management processes, and project management tools, and champion the use of the same with facility-level engineering teams.

o Track spending and maintain control of project cost performance. Act as the primary point of accountability for adherence to the project budgets.

o Manage onsite contractor activities, ensuring consistent enforcement of regulatory, corporate and plant policies such as safety, ethics, environmental, etc.

o Minimize project-related disruptions to normal plant activities and coordinate necessary disruptions with plant management in advance.

o Perform project-related quality control functions, inspecting vendor-supplied equipment and construction work to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, timeline requirements, and other requirements as defined in contract packages.

o Provide an active onsite resource for project commissioning, startup, and optimization.

· Provide Technical Resources:

o Possess strong knowledge of the design of electrical systems in an industrial environment including 12470 Volt, 4160 Volt, and 480 Volt power distribution.

o Possess strong working knowledge of and adheres to the requirements of NFPA 70 (National Electric Code), NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace), NFPA 70B (Standard for Electrical Equipment Maintenance), and NESC/ANSI C2 (National Electric Safety Code).

o Collaborate with facility teams, technical teams, and other engineers to develop innovative solutions to complex problems and business opportunities.

o Provide coaching and support for engineers and other facility-level technical resources.

Requirements:

· Four-year engineering degree plus 5 years related experience is preferred. Alternate degrees and/or extensive related experience will be considered.

· Must have demonstrated experience in project management, including but not limited to development of designs and specifications, scheduling, estimating, installation, and project administration.

· Must be able to work project-related overtime, including being on-call.

· Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Must have ability to organize and effectively lead meetings.

· Must have demonstrated record of completing projects on time, on budget, and to the requirements of the design criteria.

· Must have experience managing capital project financials.

· Must have proficiency in project management and engineering software tools, including Smartsheet, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office products, or the willingness to learn these tools.

· Must be able to travel, both domestic (approximately 40%) and international (infrequent).

Location:

· This position will be primarily based in Dalton, GA, with project management assignments and responsibilities potentially requiring work at any Shaw facility location.
