We value the benefits of work/life balance through a hybrid work environment. While regular office presence is not required for this hybrid position, we strongly encourage our employees to work in the office two days a week, with Wednesday as an anchor day to strengthen our collaborative and supportive culture. Managers (with direct reports) are required to work in the office on the anchor day. Generally, twice a year for two consecutive days, all employees report to the office for special staff meetings/functions. As a result, only local candidates will be considered for this position.

Job Summary

We have an immediate need for an experienced scientific or health-related researcher who will partner with task forces to m anage the development of new and updated systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines, position papers, and consensus documents . We’re looking for a methodical thinker who can provide our volunteer task force members with the information they need to write evidence-based guidelines on behalf of the AASM by conducting literature searches, evidence extraction, and meta-analysis. The ideal candidate will also have experience as either an author or a contributor to other guidelines or technical or scientific papers. As a staff liaison, this individual will keep the volunteers focused on their deliverables and provide pre/post conference call support.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Work with task forces to develop new or update existing systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines and submit them to the Board of Directors (BOD) for revision and approval.

  • Coordinate and assist in leading conference calls and face-to-face meetings; establish agendas and prepare materials, generate meeting minutes, and document progress according to specified timelines.

  • Collaborate with the task force to develop project charters that outline the scope of new projects, PICO questions, timelines, appropriate literature search strategies, and inclusion/exclusion criteria for the projects.

  • Serve as the methodologist for guideline development and educate the task force on the methodology used to develop systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines (literature evidence review, data extraction, meta-analysis, evidence synthesis), and how to use the GRADE system to assess the evidence and develop clinical practice recommendation statements.

  • Conduct statistical and meta-analyses to inform the systematic review and clinical practice guideline; create evidence tables and draft narrative summary of statistical analyses.

  • Assist in writing, editing, and reviewing systematic review, clinical practice guideline, and position paper manuscripts

  • Assist the department manager with developing summary reports for the BOD.

  • Assist the department manager with a review of clinical practice guidelines in need of updating to determine the strategy for revisions.

  • Some travel is required with this position, which may include weekends.

    Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree (MS, MA, MPH, etc.) or higher in science, engineering, biostatistics, epidemiology, or other health-related fields

  • Minimum two years of scientific or health-related research, development, writing, or analytical experience (including graduate work)

  • Strong conceptual skills to interpret a variety of requests for information, provided in written, oral, or schedule form, into actionable projects and deliverables

  • Strong planning, multi-tasking, and organizational skills, including project management; ability to coordinate multiple projects across multi-year timelines

  • Familiarity with statistical concepts and their application to the medical literature

  • Ability to organize, analyze, interpret, and communicate complex information coherently and logically, both orally and in written format

  • Ability to search, read, analyze, and interpret scientific literature and reports and draw meaningful conclusions

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member

  • Author or contributor to technical or scientific papers

  • Experience with reference software (e.g., EndNote)

    Bonus Skills

  • Experience with GRADE Pro or any meta-analysis software (i.e. CMA, RevMan, and/or MIX software)

  • Experience in performing literature searches with Medline, Embase, PubMed, or Google Scholar

  • Experience coordinating and facilitating committee work
