Responsibilities Position summary The Chemical Engineering Technician II provides support to the Chemical Engineer and the manufacturing floor for chemical process development, chemical maintenance, process & equipment validation, operator training and following procedures related to management of hazardous chemicals. This position is on the 1st shift - Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm. Essential Job Functions

  • Under the direction of Engineering, develop new chemical cleaning, passivation & electropolishing processes
  • Support the maintenance of all chemical baths and equipment throughout the manufacturing facility
  • Collect data and analyze process performance, execute process development experiments, document & analyze data, draft technical reports documenting experimental results
  • Identify, recommend, and implement approved process improvements and/or modifications
  • Under the direction of Engineering, implement and qualify/validate new equipment/processes as needed for chemical processing, water treatment, and chemical waste disposal equipment
  • Ensure and maintain safe working conditions and compliance with environmental and safety procedures and regulations. routinely and properly use PPE when handling chemicals
  • Train production personnel on correct PPE use and methods of handling, maintaining, and the disposal chemicals
  • Maintain chemical-related instruments
  • Perform customer, equipment, and process validations, perform and/or support process validations as required with an IQ/OQ/PQ approach
  • Partner with manufacturing and engineering to develop robust and efficient processes
  • Develop & maintain written chemical process related work instructions
  • Create documentation for fixture design
  • Read, understand, and follow work instructions and standard work
  • Follow Good Documentation Practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices associated with regulated medical device industry, ensure business systems are implemented, maintained, and functioning properly
  • Collaborate and assist team members, provide input to Engineering or area leads, and attend and participate in meetings
  • Maintain an organized work area (5S), support and comply with the company Quality System, ISO, and medical device requirements
  • Participate in the Operational Excellence Program
  • Routinely work in a manufacturing environment including Clean Environment Areas, perform other tasks as assigned

Qualifications Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience

  • Technical A.A.S. degree, emphasis in chemistry, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 year of industry experience
  • Experience with handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and proper PPE use.
  • Experience in preparation of chemical solutions, standards, and the use of common laboratory and chemical processing equipment, experience with acids and alkaline solutions
  • Knowledgeable with fixture design
  • Able to work in a manufacturing environment around chemicals, fumes, dust, and odors
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask, organize and prioritize daily activities, ability to work in a fast-paced team environment

Desirable Criteria & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cleaning, passivation, and electropolishing processes
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry processes
  • Knowledge of testing such as FTIR, salt spray, humidity
  • 3 year of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience w th a 3D CAD system (PTC Creo, SolidWorks, or other 3D CAD system)
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
