BlueHalo Polymer Processing and Characterization Lab Engineer/Scientist in DAYTON, Ohio

OVERVIEW

 BlueHalo has an opportunity available for a Research Scientist to join our polymer matrix composites materials and processing team at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). We are looking for an individual with experience in operating, maintaining, and training others in the use of analytical and processing equipment.  The positions main responsibilities include maintaining our lab equipment (documentation, calibration, minor repairs and coordinating with service engineers). Supporting research team efforts with measurement expertise and data analysis. The ability to identify measurement issues and troubleshoot instrument problems.  Training instrument users, sourcing/purchasing laboratory supplies, and overseeing Lab safety.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Preferred skills include familiarity or expertise with sample preparation, operation and analysis involving:

  • Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA)
  • Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
  • Rheology
  • Mechanics testing such as Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA) and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) equipment

Additional skills in the follow areas are a plus:

  • Composites
  • Autoclave operation
  • Additive manufacturing
  • FTIR

Strong communication skills and problem-solving skills are highly desirable.  We are particularly interested in a highly motivated, adaptable, and capable individual that is interested in mastering new characterization and processing equipment.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL BRING
  • Bachelor's Degree in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related science or engineering field.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following TGA, DSC, Rheology, Mechanics testing (TMA and DMA) equipment.
  • Ability to learn and master the operation of new equipment and data analysis approaches.
  • This position will require a self-motivated individual with good interpersonal skills and careful attention to details.
  • Adaptable to varying program objectives
  • This position is working within a government facility and requires U.S. Citizenship.
