Dayton Quality Leader confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments. This position will be responsible for direct supervision of Quality Assurance inspection and its associated operations including the management of inspection employees and other resources. This position has primary responsibility for schedule achievement and participation in improving inspection processes and quality. He/she is expected to have familiarity with the materials, process, associated testing and assembly utilized in production. “Hands-on” experience is emphasized. The incumbent will be responsible for facilitating a lean manufacturing environment in his/her assigned areas.

• Monitors inspection loads and estimates inspection hour requirements for completion of jobs.

• Drives continuous improvement efforts in gaging applications and measurement of close tolerance products.

• Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.

• Drives Gage R&R on equipment to ensure measurement accuracy and repeatability.

• Drives standardization of inspection methods within the department and across the plant.

• Ensures on time completion of gage calibration.

• Leads the supplier delegation program.

• Manages the purchased component unshippables.

• Participates in internal and external audits.

• Interprets company policies to Quality Assurance hourly workers and enforces work rules and safety regulations. Conducts performance reviews and establishes both performance and developmental goals.

• Monitors flow of work through various Quality Assurance departments; Receiving Inspection, NDT, Gage Calibration.

• Monitors training requirements and records for Quality Assurance department.

• Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of plant, department, or work crew.

• Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.

• Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

• Maintains time and production records.

• Responsible for scheduling, entering purchase orders, and maintaining GAGETRAK for purchased calibration services.

  • Proven ability to resolve complex quality issues and implement systemic process improvements

  • Strong technical leader and problem solver with ability to handle multiple daily priorities to achieve results

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to work as part of a team in daily problem solving and new process/product introduction.

  • Demonstrated process management/lean manufacturing/continuous improvement experience as well as knowledge and experience with quality system standards

  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public

  • Ability to lead teams and develop positive relationships with coworkers, customers, suppliers, and auditors

  • Approachable and able to effectively communicate advanced quality concepts, plans, and technical data, internally and externally at all levels.

  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes and related process controls

  • Demonstrated competency and professionalism in interactions with executive management, vendors, customers and team members

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office

Required

  • Minimum 5 years of Quality related experience with increasing responsibility in a manufacturing environment

Preferred

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing

  • Solid working knowledge of mechanical processes utilized in the manufacture of metal/rubber products.

  • Experience with SAP

Education

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline or equivalent education and experience with active pursuit of a degree
