Ford Motor Company Commercial Vehicle Energy Management Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

Product Development uses design thinking & user experience methods to deliver breakthrough products and services that delight our customers. We bring innovative, exciting, and sustainable ideas to life. We have opportunities around the world for you to contribute to advancements in autonomy, electrification, smart mobility technologies, and more!

This team requests candidates able to work hybrid from our Dearborn, MI office.

To support these objectives, a TSE engineer working on PT Cooling monitors & conducts thermal development via CAE or physical test to optimize the vehicle's airflows (front-end cooling pack & air induction) & fluid temperatures. A TSE engineer also works on Heat Management and conducts engine compartment and under-vehicle thermal mapping and has a lot of interfaces with various D&Rs to make sure the thermal properties of the vehicle's components are well understood to support accurate thermal mapping & issue identification.

This job will provide exposure to a large area of the vehicle being developed. The engineer will interact with and learn from many D&R engineers, primarily from Powertrain, Chassis, and EESE, though occasionally with Body. The engineer will also use various CAE tools and conduct physical vehicle tests in Ford's wind tunnels to identify issues and optimize cost & engineering for PT Cooling and Thermal Management.

You'll have...

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or chemical engineering

  • Knowledge of Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Fluid Mechanics

  • Familiarity with Ford's GPDS process

  • Strong analytical skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills

  • A self-starter who can lead the program support for this attribute with minimal supervision

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s degree in engineering

  • Three or more years of experience as a Design & Release Engineer or a System Engineer

  • Physical vehicle testing skills and/or CAE development & analysis skills

Other:

  • Nearly all testing is conducted in Ford-owned wind tunnels in Dearborn. Testing required on the morning shift (7:30 am to 3:00 pm) or the afternoon shift (3:30 pm to 11:00). Occasional weekend testing required, but very infrequent.

  • Typically, no travel is required of a TSE engineer as nearly all vehicle testing is done in Ford's local wind tunnels located at Dearborn Development Center (a.k.a. DPG). Occasionally trips to Ford's other proving grounds (APG or MPG) are required, typically only once or twice a year.

  • TSE has a great team with many highly capable people. You will not only be able to learn from these people but have some fun while you are working with them! If this sounds like an area you would like to work in, call me.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!

As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice. You can choose what your Ford future will look like: will your story span the globe, or keep you close to home?
