The Ford Enterprise Architecture Program Management office leads key initiatives to enable software development at Ford. We are looking for a Program Manager to run existing projects, manage a small communication team and establish an Open-Source Program office. This program office will encourage software engineers’ contributions to open-source software that benefit Ford and make an impact in the open-source community showcasing Ford's tech talent.

I n this position...

The Program Manager is responsible for managing any audit findings, org change and communication plan and execution, as well as leading the Open-Source Program - defining, designing, and delivering an Open-Source Program Office that coordinates and manages all activities associated with open-source software usage, contributions and new Open-source projects. You will demonstrate extraordinary organizational and cross-functional communication skills to evolve the open-source program for the enterprise. 

As a Program Manager, you will partner with multiple departments - Ford Legal, IT Contracts, Enterprise Architecture and DevSec Ops to assist with governance and support for projects and programs in the Enterprise Architecture space and establish Open-Source use and contributions.  You will collaborate to identify and improve process and program efficiencies. In addition, work can involve external parties such as open-source communities, standards bodies, partners, etc.

This is a hybrid opportunity in Dearborn, MI at our Rotunda Center and the team normally is onsite 1-2 days/ week.

What you’ll do.. .

  • Manage a small team executing projects and communications for the Enterprise Architecture department.

  • Work with chief architect on setting and managing progress to objectives and key results.

  • Define a strategy for Ford’s open-source presence and reputation.

  • Drive involvement and recognition of the open-source program internally

  • Align goals of the program with business goals

  • Build awareness of Ford open source externally and increasing overall Ford involvement in the open-source community in alignment with our business strategy

  • Establish Ford as a high-contributing member of key Open-Source initiatives with strategic alignment to our software development strategies.

  • Support the open-source office in managing the operational pipeline of requests for intake, contributions, and new OSS projects.

  • Manage open-source office communication sites.

  • Assist in the creation of documentation and education for the Open-Source compliance and governance program.

  • Support, as needed, automation to streamline governance processes.

  • Triage and review open-source contribution proposals from developers.

  • Train product and solution teams on open-source policy topics, including the legal implications of using open source.

  • Represent Ford in the open-source community at external events.

You'll have…

  • Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and equivalent work experience

  • 3 + years of experience as a Software Project or /Program Manager with skills including:

  • Exceptional communication and customer relationship skills

  • Ability to build consensus and cooperation as well as to influence, interact and negotiate with senior leadership in the organization.

  • Knowledge of change and project management methodologies and principles and the ability to integrate them into project design.

  • 2+ years of experience leading people or teams

  • 1+ years of Prior experience working or managing an Open-Source Program Office including…

  • Deep knowledge of open-source licensing and intellectual property concepts

  • Understanding of open-source software governance, licensing, and culture

  • Knowledge of common open-source communities and publication methods

Even better, you may have...

  • Master’s degree

  • Broad knowledge of Information Security technologies, techniques, and processes

  • Experience leading complex technical projects, meeting target timelines, facilitating project meetings, authoring project documentation, issue resolution, and project resource identification.

  • Exceptional communication and customer relationship skills

  • Ability to build consensus and cooperation as well as to influence, interact and negotiate with senior leadership in the organization.

  • Knowledge of change and project management methodologies and principles and the ability to integrate them into project design.

  • Excellent process design capability to improve overall efficiency, mitigate resource conflicts, and improve developer experience.

  • Ability to navigate and work effectively across a complex, geographically dispersed organization.

  • Willingness and ability to consult with many development teams on the options and opportunities with open source.

  • Ability to implement best practices and procedures for cross-functional alignment.

This position is in the range of salary grade LL6.
