Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our machine shop that fabricates parts for the oil and gas industry, specifically focusing on bearings and seals for rotating equipment. As a job shop, work orders can vary, providing a diverse range of tasks. The parts you will work on range from 1" ID to 36" OD and up to 12" in length, utilizing materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, babbitt, and exotic metals. You will be responsible for manual machining using a horizontal lathe with a 4-6 jaw chuck, creating split parts with tolerances of +/- thousandths or less.
Responsibilities
Perform manual machining using a horizontal lathe.
Fabricate parts according to work orders, ensuring high precision and accuracy.
Work with a variety of materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, babbitt, and exotic metals.
Create split parts (identical twin parts that combine halves to make one whole).
Adhere to tight tolerances of +/- thousandths or less.
Essential Skills
10+ years of experience in manual machining.
Proficiency in horizontal lathe machining.
Ability to work with tolerances of +/- thousandths or less.
Experience with blueprint reading.
Skilled in using calipers and micrometers.
Familiarity with Bridgeport, Lion, Kingston, and Babbitt.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in mill machining.
Experience machining split parts.
Previous experience at a competing bearing shop.

Work Environment
Our medium-sized shop is clean and air-conditioned, maintaining a constant temperature of around 72°F to prevent material warping. The shop is organized but busy, with parts and equipment in use. We have 27 employees on the day shift, including sales, admins, supervisors, and 23 employees on the afternoon shift. Our team consists of CNC machinists, manual machinists, QC, welders, assemblers, and general laborers. Employees are required to wear steel-toe boots, jeans, work shirts, and safety glasses. The first shift runs from Monday to Thursday, 6:00am to 2:30pm, Fridays from 6:00am to Noon, with voluntary half-days on Saturdays, averaging 50 hours per week. Future workloads may require mandatory Saturday shifts.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Deer Park, Texas.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00
