Ervin Cable Locator I in Dekalb, Illinois

The Locator, under the direction of a company supervisor, performs work that involves visual inspection of predefined construction areas. Locators read and interpret utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, while using special electronic equipment to detect and locate utilities. The utilities may include (but not be limited to) gas, electric, cable TV, telecommunications, sanitary sewer, water lines, street lighting and other facilities within the predefined construction area.
Please Note: This position will require some travel.
What you’ll do…
You will read and interpret utility maps / prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities
You will operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits
You will use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel, regarding underground facilities
You will perform light excavation with a shovel, to expose buried utilities when necessary
You will provide accurate documentation and or sketches related to all locates completed
You will receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements
You will use a computer or other device to receive, document and close out excavation notices
You will respond to emergency calls between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
You will work weekends, night work and/or overnight travel as needed
You will operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance
You will perform manhole entry using assigned equipment and safety devices
Who we are looking for…
You are at least 18 years old
You are authorized to work in the United States for this company
You have a high school diploma or equivalent
You have a valid standard Driver's License or Class A Commercial Driver's License
You have an MVR record that is deemed acceptable by the company
You are proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment (shovels, screw drivers, wrenches, and ped keys etc.)
You are able to maintain a safe work environment
You are able to work in all weather conditions
