The Vice President for Student Life (VPSL), as the Senior Student Affairs Officer of the College, administers the student affairs programs of the College, exercises visionary leadership in the fulfillment of the student affairs objectives of the College, and serves as the campus student affairs leader. The VPSL will have the privilege of leading the SUNY Delhi Division of Student Life from a position of strength and will harness the talents of a committed team, work with remarkable students in the delivery of innovative programs and services that meet the needs of SUNY Delhi's diverse and engaged student body. Responsibilities also include developing collaborative relationships with campus administrative areas, faculty, and campus leaders to plan and implement strategic initiatives, develop partnerships, resolve issues, and cultivate seamlessness in our students' learning experience.

Success in this position will require a visionary leader with an appreciation for the interdependence of the curricular and co-curricular aspects of the students' education, a passion for students and their development, experience with a complex array of services and programs, and a capacity for and commitment to building diverse and inclusive communities.

The VPSL provides leadership, vision, and supervision for a Division that includes 8 departments, approximately 105 college employees, 120 auxiliary employees, and over 350 student employees. As the Senior Student Affairs Officer, this individual oversees budgets in excess of $20 million including the residence hall, health, athletic, and auxiliary budgets. As a senior administrative officer, the VPSL reports directly to the college president and serves as a member of the Campus Leadership Team.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide supervision, administration, and leadership for divisional programs and staff.

  • Participate in the development of a strategic vision, short- and long-range plans, and goals and objectives in support of SUNY Delhi's mission.

  • Facilitate and serve as a channel for effective communication between the students and staff within the division and across functions within the college.

  • Maintain, develop, and supervise an exceptionally strong student life team.

  • Collaborate across the campus to promote student success, leadership, and engagement.

  • Facilitate an inclusive and responsive campus environment.

  • Oversee student related campus policies including the Student Code of Conduct and the production of the student handbook.

  • Oversee the student conduct process, in conjunction with various staff and judicial bodies.

  • Serve as a member of the campus emergency response team, and lead the response to student related crises.

  • Oversee the maintenance and development of parent/family services including regular communications, the parent/family help line, and the parent/family website.

  • Oversee the facilitation of marketing and promotion for the division

  • Promote and lead a culture of assessment and accountability.

  • Develop and support campus and community partnerships

  • Visibly engage with students and members of the campus and local community.

Supervises: Athletics (Intercollegiate, Recreation, and Intramurals), Auxiliary Services (Dining, Catering, and Campus Store), Counseling and Health Services, Judicial Affairs, The O' Connor Center for Community Engagement, New Student Orientation & Parent Programs, Residence Life, Student Activities and the College Union (Student Government Association & Greek Life), and University Police.

Job Requirements:

Experience

SUNY Delhi seeks in its next Vice President for Student Life a student-centered leader and advocate with a vision for contemporary student affairs, an open leadership style, and the energy and integrity to inspire the campus community to new levels of excellence. Other requirements:

  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in administrative positions demonstrating increasing supervisory responsibility

  • Demonstrated commitment to students and their development, both individually and collectively

  • Well established and effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple departments and possess a team approach to problem solving

  • Understanding of and experience with the uses of information technology to deliver, monitor and evaluate programs and services for students

  • Knowledge and involvement with disciplinary and judicial processes

  • The ability to collaborate with other divisions in the College

  • A proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Education/Licensure

  • Doctoral degree in Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or related field (In lieu of a Doctoral a degree, a Master's Degree with 8+ years of increasingly responsible experience in student life with a record of substantial success will be considered)

  • Salary: Commensurate with education and experience

  • Work Schedule: Travel and some evening & weekend work will be required
