Description of Job

The Work Unit:

The purpose of the unit is to provide financial services to the Division of Environmental Health and Sustainability. The Fiscal Services Unit exists to provide budget oversight, accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, and financial reporting to the management and staff of the Division of Environmental Health and Sustainability (DEHS).

Summary of Position:

Serves as the accounts payable accountant for the division and functions as a member of the Fiscal Services Unit.

Primary responsibilities are to:

  • Accurately and timely process the division’s accounts payables which includes the daily input of data into CORE, processing interagency transfers and other related financial documents and activities in a timely manner.

  • Serves as the staff contact on CORE concerning accounts payable problems and questions.

  • Aides in external reporting requests, payables spreadsheets and audit requests as applicable.

  • Responsible for assisting with classifying, recording, and reconciling accounts payable accounts.

  • Assures compliance with applicable fiscal rules, regulations, department and state procedures, and statutes in the day-to-day processes of the Fiscal Services unit.

  • Assures understanding of internal controls and fiscal procedure manual responsibilities as they pertain to the unit processes.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications, must meet one of the following options below:

Option 1, Experience:

Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to

this position.

OR

Option 2, Experience & Education:

A combination of related education (coursework requires 27 semester hours completed in accounting or auditing) and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years.

Substitutions:

Current, valid licensure as a CPA by the Colorado Board of Accountancy will substitute

for four (4) years of education.

This experience must be substantiated within the Work Experience section of your application. Please be sure to enter all relevant job history and education within the last 10 years. "See Resume" and missing relevant employment/education will not be credited towards the minimum qualifications.

Cover Letter Requirement:

Along with the application submit a cover letter, not to exceed two typewritten pages, double spaced detailing how your education and previous work experience has prepared you to excel in this job. Specific examples of determining and/or demonstrating compliance with regulations or evidence-based practice should be included as well as how you meet the minimum and preferred competencies for the position. Part of, or all of, the comparative analysis for this position will involve a review of the information you submit in your application and cover letter.

Preferred and Essential Competencies:

Relevant years of State service contribute to a candidates position-related knowledge, skill, ability, behavior or other posted competency should be considered as a preferred qualification and given weight under the process.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software, specifically Excel

  • Demonstrated experience working with CORE (Advantage).

  • Preference will be given to candidates with public-sector and/or government accounting experience.

  • General ledger & reconciliation accounting experience.

  • Professional experience in any of the following processes: batches, adjustments, transactions, and/or expenditures.
