Colorado Department Of Transportation Benefits Specialist (HR Specialist III) - Denver in Denver, Colorado

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

This position is only open to Colorado state residents.

This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

About the Work Unit The Division of Human Resources (DHR) provides all human resource (HR) functions at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), which includes talent acquisition, compensation management, performance management, benefits, employee and labor relations, HR compliance, employee development, benefits program administration and Human Resources Information System (HRIS) management.

About the Position This position provides support to the CDOT Benefits Unit by assisting with the management and administration of various leave programs (FML, PFML, FAMLI, disability and workers compensation) processing leave-related information, and using existing processes, procedures, and operational guidelines to assist employees with leave-related issues and/or questions. This position will also learn to assist benefits administration, PERA, the Service Award program, and Retirement.

This position requires a high level of professionalism and confidentiality as well as excellent customer service. This position will participate in researching and analyzing organizational policies and PDs to help inform decisions. This position may also participate in special HR projects and initiatives to achieve the HR Division s priorities, and objectives.

Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Have primary responsibility for daily leave administration, management, and coordination. Receive, review, and track leave paperwork and notifications. Calculate and communicate time entry instructions. Provide leave information to employees, timekeepers, FML liaisons, and supervisors. Apply State Personnel Board Rules, laws, and policy and procedural directives in the administration of leave programs. Use specialized software to accomplish assignments, including BAS, SAP, CPPS, and CDLE FAMLI portal. Ensure that leave-related materials and websites are maintained and updated. Use processes to track information, adhere to timelines and deadlines, and communicate decisions and actions. Analyze submitted benefits-related forms and paperwork to ensure accuracy and provide feedback to customers. Manage the Retirement Recognition program, which provides CDOT-branded gifts to employees retiring from CDOT. This involves statewide coordination with CDOT personnel and working with a vendor. Serve as the CDOT Headquarters representative for the Service Award program, which provides CDOT-branded gifts to employees in 5-year increments of service. Assist with special projects, including learning any specialized software, establishing timelines, and communicating progress. Represent DHR through proper communications and relations with internal and external stakeholders. Maintain a positive and professional image and provide effective customer service. Other job duties as assigned.
