AWS Data Center Planning, Deliver, & Operations is a global team responsible for the design and operation of industry-leading, large-scale, business critical facilities. We are currently seeking highly motivated individuals with demonstrated design and analytical expertise in the execution of real time control on mission-critical facilities. The Controls System Development Engineer is responsible for PLC programming, technical writing tasks, electrical schematic interpretation to IO lists, parts BOM creation, full system development, scaling system design (operational performance & scalability), OT networking, OS configuration, operational excellence, as well as performing in depth root cause analysis of current AWS developed electrical switchgear and generator automation systems.
The ideal candidate will need a wide-ranging background in system development for data center controls systems, IT infrastructure, networking, facility operations, electrical switchgear and generator automation, project management and strong leadership skills.

Key job responsibilities
Subject matter expert in low voltage switchgear breaker control and generator automation.
Develop, program and iterate sequence of operations and HMI graphics leveraging PLC/PAC/IPC platforms for first of kind and retrofit electrical infrastructure automation projects to be rolled out at scale globally.
Contribute and maintain a library of standard tested automation logic function blocks.
Expert in IEC61131-3 programming language standards including ladder logic, structured text, function block, and sequential function chart.
Have deep knowledge of the innerworkings of low voltage and/or medium voltage electrical equipment, electrical schematics, Building Management System and Electrical Power Monitoring programming concepts
Developing automation sequences, mechanical plant strategies, and complex environmental and electrical concepts.
Understand data center redundancy, electrical failure strategies, energy conservation best-case practices and data reporting analytics.
Knowledge of how to successfully operate in high security critical environments while maximizing productivity.
Be Innovative with new solutions to support initiatives, teams, and company goals.
Lead and facilitate collaboration through multiple teams including construction, commissioning, development engineers, MEP/ACS engineers, and team managers as necessary to accomplish initiative goals on time.
Create, maintain, and disseminate specification documents that pertain to global projects for automation system development.
Vendor selection, bid review, RFI support and coordination.
Central point of contact for multiple internal and external groups regarding electrical controls standards. Manage and prioritize requests for information on new construction builds, existing site facilities support and legacy site enhancement projects.
Interaction with AWS cloud services and other applications in order to present, archive, deploy and analyze accumulated data.
Expect to travel globally when needed to manage and/or support project initiatives.
Anticipate roadblocks and risks while providing escalation management.
A day in the life
The SysDev Engineer works with AWS stakeholders ranging from Sr and Principle MEP Engineering, Product and Program managers, and Operations to create and iterate upon the AWS Infrastructure Automation products. Depending on scope and size of projects, this includes developing these systems jointly with the other developers on the team as well as on smaller projects as the sole engineer responsible for all aspects.

Basic Qualifications
2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
3+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience
Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
3 years of experience in PLC development leveraging IEC-61131 Structured Text and Ladder Logic
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java
Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology
3 years of Data Center Design, Commissioning or Construction Experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
