The Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity provides academic, strategic and operational leadership for campuswide initiatives supporting undergraduate research and creative activities. The Director is the program's primary internal and external spokesperson, student advisor, faculty recruiter, budget planner, and visionary. Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Achievement, the Director works with academic units across all disciplines to advance opportunities for undergraduate research and creative activities and ultimately student success.

Faculty Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities

What you will do:

Program Management (60% of time)

  • Oversees the recruitment, selection, advising, and programming for all URCA programs.

  • Organizes and hosts the annual Research & Creative Activities Symposium (RaCAS) showcasing student work.

  • Builds relationships with students, faculty, and staff to support program initiatives.

  • Collaborates with other programs including University Honors, McNair, MARC-U STAR and others.

  • Exercises fiscal oversight for annual budget and grant funds.

  • Oversees processes including job posting, hiring, timesheets, and terminating 80 EUReCA! student assistants each year including evaluation of Work Study eligibility.

  • Seeks funding from internal and external sources to support and expand programs.

  • Participates in maintenance and reporting for existing external grants.

  • Maintains web site, social media presence and other outreach outlets to promote awareness and participation and programs.

  • Supervises the work of a Senior Program Coordinator and 3-4 student workers.

Mentorship and Support (30% of time)

  • Provides supplementary mentorship to students engaged in research projects across disciplines.

  • Provides resources and guidance for faculty relating to their role as mentors to undergraduate students conducting research

Program Evaluation (10% of time)

  • Collects and tracks data used to evaluate program effectiveness and generate annual reports.

  • Identifies key learning outcomes associated with research and creative activities and assesses learning outcomes for program participants.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position will include course buy-outs for a portion of the faculty members' course load, an administrative stipend, and summer pay not to exceed $53,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Earned terminal degree in any academic discipline from an accredited institution of higher education.

  • Rostered faculty member at CU Denver

  • Strong professional track record of scholarly research or creative activities

  • Significant experience teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduates.

  • Experience with budget management and oversight

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience working across institutional boundaries

  • Proven track record acquiring funding for research or creative activities.

  • Experience organizing public events

  • Administrative, supervisory, and/or leadership experience

  • Creation and/or execution of programs that are informed by best-practices

  • Concrete experience with learning assessment and program evaluation

  • Seven years of experience as a rostered faculty member or equivalent appointment at another institution

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and student success.

  • Demonstrated commitment to serving undergraduate students and creating rich educational experiences for them.

  • Skills in identifying problems, analyzing data and making recommendations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with university constituencies, including administrators, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the institution.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Skilled in communicating effectively in writing, public presentations, and individual or group consultations.

  • A demonstrated ability to integrate principles of equity and inclusion into programs and practices.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Conditions of Employment

  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.

  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.
