Job Overview
Primary responsibility includes include designing, overseeing, developing, and implementing Sage Hospitality Group’s payroll and benefits strategies, including establishing leading payroll processes and competencies throughout the organization. Responsible for balancing staffing needs with cost controls, ensuring that policies, procedures, and programs are in alignment with the organization’s overall strategic objectives and People & Culture’s vision.
Responsibilities
Designs, develops implements and communicates all employee benefits (health, welfare and retirement) policies, practices, and programs.
Interprets, evaluates, modifies, and updates existing benefits programs; makes recommendations for implementing changes to stay competitive, assisting with retention and reducing turnover.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, payroll and benefits policies and processes, system enhancements, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Analyze complex transactions, identify issues, and work with internal operational teams to identify causes, assess risks, and implement plans to eliminate future occurrence.
Maintain current knowledge of, and compliance with, legal requirements associated with payroll including, but not limited to, applicable wage and tax regulations, Federal, State and local laws, FLSA, reporting requirements, internal controls and Company policies.
Develop payroll and benefits team members, including hiring talent, providing professional growth and development opportunities, and creating an environment of service, knowledge, and accountability.
Develop a strong relationship and partner with the People & Culture and HRIS teams.
Coordinate hotel and restaurant payroll functions during property transitions in and out of the Sage portfolio.
Ensure all payroll requirements are communicated and training supplied in conjunction with the HRIS and People & Culture teams.
Possess a strong desire to operate in an environment that requires a hands-on approach while maintaining a strategic vision.
Maintain robust understanding of benefits, and benefits technology and its application to achieve organizational objectives.
Leading, developing, and executing long-term compensation and benefits strategies.
Stay current on benefit market trends, advocate for change when necessary.
Maintain current knowledge of related government rules and regulations, including ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, COBRA, OFCCP, and other applicable labor and/or tax laws and regulations; fulfills compliance and reporting requirements.
All other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications
Education/Formal Training
Bachelor of Science degree (Business, Accounting, HR or Finance) or equivalent work experience
Experience
Certified Payroll Professionals (CPP) designation required
10 years leadership experience leading a multi-state payroll function and/or senior project management responsibility leading multi-state payroll transformation initiatives including the implementation of payroll technology platforms
Practical and proven accomplishments in industry related areas.
5-7 years HR management experience with a focus on benefits.
Experience in hospitality preferred.
5 years direct people leadership experience
PHR or SPHR Certification preferred.
Knowledge/Skills
Proven ability to influence across multiple organizational levels applying exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment
Proven performance leading and improving multi-state payroll processes and procedures for continuous process improvements
Demonstrated drive for excellence in operational support and customer service
Knowledge of the payroll tax function.
Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with all levels of the organization and external vendors.
Ability to succeed in demanding situations through achieving balance between technical and business interests, accomplishing results through third parties, remaining focused on given objectives, modulating speed, quality, and costs, and thriving under pressure.
Ability to manage complex projects and resources (people, costs, and time) across multiple sub-teams.
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, demonstrated talent in building relationships and leveraging resources.
