Are you looking for an exciting job where you can put your skills and talents to work at a company you can feel proud to be a part of? Do you want a workplace that will challenge you and offer you opportunities to learn and grow? A position at Xcel Energy could be just what you’re looking for.

Position Summary

Assist in the evaluation of complex gas supply, transportation, and storage service plans for both the gas distribution and electric generation gas supply portfolios. Model various supply alternatives to ensure portfolio optimization, support the negotiation of fuel supply related contracts, assist in the development of gas supply forecasts, develop corporate budget forecasts, and perform financial analysis of interstate and intrastate pipeline rate cases.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop/run/maintain long range, complex resource modeling for the gas supply portfolios for XE's gas and electric operations. Develop sophisticated resource models in Sendout and Plexos (portfolio optimization-linear or "stochastic" program models) to determine the optimal gas purchases for each operating business unit. Collaborate with Gas Supply to develop and implement each season's gas purchase plan estimated at $2B/year of expenditures.

  • Create Design Day forecast projecting peak gas requirements for gas distribution and electric generation business units. Ensure accuracy of modeling, which is critical to prevent loss of gas and electric service to customers. Use Design Day forecast to determine the variety and quantity of transportation and storage contracts held across 12 geographically dispersed pipeline systems as well as when to modify or purchase additional transportation and storage capacity, estimated at $200M per year of expenditures.

  • Prepare and defend extensive regulatory filings to recover the costs related to the $2B annual gas fuel budget. Create filing schedule based on modeling efforts. Provide accurate information in support of XE's requests and written descriptions of Company practices/activities to regulators to obtain state commission approval for expended costs and avoid financial loss to shareholders. Contribute to written and verbal testimony to state commissions.

  • Prepare financial analysis of interstate and intrastate pipeline rate cases to determine the tariff rates XE will pay after litigation or settlement of the pipeline case. Support the litigation and/or settlement of the pipeline case by preparing financial models and preparing written testimony for others.

  • Prepare, implement, and maintain dynamic annual and long-range gas supply plans for the gas distribution and electric generation operating units. Plan must optimize reliability and cost effectiveness of XE's $2B budget for gas supply, storage, and transportation.

  • Evaluate market opportunities and perform analysis on proposed transactions.
