Laradon School Nurse in Denver, Colorado

Position: School Nurse

Schedule: 8:00am-4:00pm, M-F, on site in the School

Starting Salary Range: * $30.00/hr-$35.00/hr

*pay is based on education and experience

As a School Nurse you will be a valuable asset to Laradon’s mission by providing nursing services for The Laradon School, and working collaboratively with the School staff to assist in the efficient and prompt health care services for those served by Laradon.

No day is ever alike but you can generally look forward to the following responsibilities:

  • Create individualized health care plans for students (if applicable); train necessary staff members; Update protocols yearly and re-train staff yearly, or sooner if there are new staff, or if there are any changes to a protocol

  • Administer and document medications as prescribed to students during school hours

  • Intake/Admissions (medical portion)

  • Ensure that physician orders, consents, other healthcare forms and physicals are up to date/current; coordinate with school staff, other healthcare professionals and parents/guardians/providers

  • Transcribe physician orders on MAR’s (electronic); create CDC’s and complete/fill out/ensure accuracy

  • Ensure medical files are in accordance with regulatory agencies and Laradon policies and procedures

  • On site assessments as needed and appropriate follow up care and coordination

  • Perform and train staff to perform medical care during school hours (i.e. g-tube feedings, insulin administration, catheters, etc.). if applicable

  • Annual training to staff (Universal Precautions/Head Injuries/etc.)

  • Work collaboratively with other programs

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Act as a liaison and a positive ambassador for Laradon with cooperating medical facilities, hospitals, specialists and other service agencies

  • Consult with teachers, school administrators and other school staff regarding student care; ensure the safety and well-being of students

    We ask that you bring the following assets to our workplace:

  • Current Colorado State License for RN

  • CPR Certified

  • Knowledge of and experience with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred

  • Valid Colorado driving license, good driving record

  • Good customer service and people skills

  • Physical requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force; physical condition to enable walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; stamina to be on feet and active for full work days. Must frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to successfully pass Safety Care training and preemployment physical examination. Able to speak or exchange information in an audible manner.
