JOB SUMMARY Joining BKV as a Tax Accountant II places you at the forefront of innovation, where you will integrate and optimize compliance with tax laws and regulations spanning Upstream, Power and CCUS sectors. As an integral member of BKV’s finance team, your role is pivotal in driving insights and recommendations for tax planning optimization to maximize profitability and mitigate cash taxes. In the Upstream business, you will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, leveraging your expertise to oversee all tax-related functions. This includes managing external providers to meet financial statement and statutory deadlines, managing examinations, construct financial models that inform strategic decisions aimed at optimizing asset performance. For BKV’s CCUS business, you will support M&A tax due diligence and provide recommendations on tax treatment crucial to qualify CCUS projects for 45Q tax credits. This role works to achieve operational targets under general supervision. Requires the ability to influence others by explaining facts, policies and practices. Problems faced may be difficult but generally not complex. Demonstrates integrity, accountability and transparency; upholds BKV standards, values and culture. ​​​​​ RESPONSIBILITIES Typical job responsibilities of the TAX ACCOUNTANT II include: • Ensure accurate and timing filing of all tax returns, including but not limited to, federal returns/K-1s, state income and franchise returns, 1099s, sales and use returns, 1042s, asset acquisition statements and commercial activity tax for each line of service. • Prepare book to tax adjustments and deliverables to be provided to the Company’s third-party tax preparer for US corporate income, gross receipts, and franchise tax return compliance. • Manage the day-to-day compliance process with external tax preparers. • Review tax returns drafted by the Company’s third-party tax preparer. • Prepare tax disclosures and footnotes for the SEC Form 10-K and 10-Q. • Support quarterly reviews and annual audits with our external public accounting firm for ASC 740 provisions, including Memo prep and other documentation. • Manage federal and state tax depreciation books within Enertia ERP system. • Assist in quarterly, annual, and long-term effective tax rate planning and forecasting. • Perform tax research relating to specific tax issues or tax planning opportunities. • Serve as a resource and developing strong working relationships with key stakeholders with an emphasis on Corporate Accounting, Financial Reporting, Human Resources, Payroll, Treasury, Financial Planning and Analysis, Legal external tax advisors and other internal departments. • Respond to sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism • Perform other duties as required. REQUIRED SKILLS • Understanding of natural gas industry standards, market trends, emerging issues, and regulatory requirements. • Proficiency in ASC 740 income tax accounting, including understanding of Oil & Gas operations preferred. • Knowledge of a multi-state income tax and franchise tax compliance, including unitary, combined, and consolidated filing rules and apportionment. • Three or more years public accounting tax experience or a mix of public tax accounting and corporate tax department experience preferred. • Experience with ERP systems, such as Enertia and Oracle, preferred. • Experience in fixed asset federal and state depreciation book maintenance and the ability to properly apply federal and multi-state depreciation rules. • Experience with or ability to manage state and local income and franchise tax audits. • Proficiency in research of tax laws, rules and regulations and apply to specific scenarios. • Experience with Internal Controls and SOX compliance. • Proficient in Microsoft Office and job-related applications. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE • Bachelor's or master's in accounting or equivalent required. • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS • CPA or CPA candidate a plus PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS • This position is located at BKV’s Denver or Fort Worth office. Remote work will be considered. • Indoor working environment that requires the ability to perform repetitive motions and operate standard office equipment. • May occasionally be exposed to distracting noise while sharing office space with others. SALARY RANGE • $74,000 - $122,000
