Job Summary and Qualifications

Under general supervision, submits all prior authorizations and appropriate documentation required by specialty pharmacies and insurance companies for patients on defined medications. Ensures follow-up is conducted until approval is received and patient is notified. Under direction of a physician, sends prescriptions to pharmacies. Assists with patient assistance forms for patients with financial needs such as high copays or financial hardship. Updates information in patient medical record (EMR) with approval or declination information; follows up with primary physician as to status and/or issues with prior authorizations. Coordinates with physician or advanced practice provider for scheduling of peer to peer requests for denied services. Coordinates with physician, advanced practice provider, or Nurse Coordinator to obtain letters of medical necessary to appeal denied services. Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

College degree in business or health care field preferred.

Two years experience in medical record coding and financial counseling

Excellent understanding of medical terminology. Knowledge of Word and Excel required. Strong organizational and critical thinking skills. Able to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Able to function as a part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care.
