Colorado Department Of Transportation Transportation Planning Specialist II in Denver, Colorado

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

This position is only open to Colorado state residents.

This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a year.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

About the Work Unit The Statewide & Regional Planning Section is responsible for facilitating and directing the Colorado statewide transportation planning process, including the development of the long-range statewide multimodal transportation plan and the integration of the Department s other modal plans. The Section is also responsible for working with the five Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) and ten rural Transportation Planning Regions (TPRs) and assisting them in the development of their Regional Transportation Plans.

About the Position The Transportation Planning Specialist II position will be responsible for the following- development of the Statewide and Regional Transportation Plans, working as a liaison to assigned CDOT Region(s) and Transportation Planning Regions and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (TPRs/MPOs), assisting with research on planning topics as assigned, writing briefs and reports, assisting with conducting data analysis and preparing spreadsheets, performing strategic communications, and reviewing and producing planning products.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Help ensure federal and state complete streets requirements are integrated into the planning process and planning documents at CDOT; Assist planning stakeholders with the identification of regional project priorities, by explaining and providing transportation data for improved decision-making; Explain various CDOT funding programs, policies, and procedures to planning stakeholders; Work with the Statewide and Regional Planning Manager, and other CDOT staff, in developing the Statewide Transportation Plan and Regional Transportation Plans (RTPs); Support CDOT s land use/transportation initiatives and help with analyzing past and future growth patterns in Colorado and their impacts on transportation; Formulate and implement corridor-wide visions that involve multiple communities and stakeholders; Work to integrate strategic growth concepts into the Statewide and Regional Transportation Plans, Transit Plans and other relevant modal and functional transportation plans; Make data-driven decisions to inform and support initiatives on land use and transportation; Assist with data-driven decisions to help inform and support transportation decision-making; Be resourceful and diplomatic when working with different communities around the state; Assist regional stakeholder in understanding CDOT transportation funding and grant opportunities; Other job duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Only Five (5) years of experience involving regional, urban and/or transportation planning.

OR

Education and Experience A combination of relevant education and experience equal to at 5 (five) years

Education from an accredited college or university with coursework in planning (regional, transportation or urban), business administration, finance,
