Description of Job

Position Description:

This new position was created to support the expanded needs of the Dispute Prevention and Assisted Resolution team within the Office of Special Education for the Colorado Department of Education (CDE). The work performed by this position ensures that the team is able to support the meaningful engagement of families of students with disabilities, teachers and other education professionals in the Special Education process. This position is a great combination of traditional administrative support work and customer service related interactions with parents and education professionals a like. The right person for this position should enjoy working work independently on a variety of different tasks as well as being part of a team.

Summary of Duties:

  • Help plan, organize, and attend to support two+ in person Parents Encouraging Parents conferences held in various locations around the state each year.

  • Provide support organizing quarterly meetings and an annual planning retreat for the Colorado Special Education Advisory Committee (CSEAC), an IDEA / ECEA required advisory committee comprised of parents of children with disabilities, self-advocates, and a variety of special education professionals.

  • Support team’s trainings and technical assistance efforts.

  • Help process parent and professional requests for language interpretation and document translation, as required by statute.

  • Provide administrative support for the day to day operations of the Office of Special Education's Dispute Prevention and Assisted Resolution team, including invoice and budget management support.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

OPTION 1: Minimum Qualifications (MQs)

  • Three (3) years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position such as Executive, Chief, or Director Support, Administrative or Program Support, Office Management, Clerical, or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

OR

OPTIONS 2: Education Substitution**

  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for year basis.

Qualifications for Success in the Position:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail (proofing work, spelling, grammar, formatting, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively balance quality of work and productivity expectations

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external customers (e.g. school districts, other CDE units)

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize work to accommodate and meet the changing needs of the team and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and exhibit a proactive approach to work

  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and recommend solutions prior to the standard being jeopardized

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as, on a team

  • Ability and willingness to travel, including some nights and weekends

  • Ability and willingness to work in the office as needed

  • Must be willing and able to submit to and pass a background check.

  • Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in education or a related field

  • Previous experience using Smartsheet

  • Previous experience using virtual meeting platforms, such as Teams, Google Meets, and Zoom
