Department Summary:

The Program in Law, Politics, and Society (LPS) at Drake University is a unique interdisciplinary undergraduate legal studies program. Faculty come from various disciplines but share a commitment to undergraduate teaching and scholarship in the field of Law and Society. Students enjoy small, discussion-based classes on topics such as constitutional law, crime, immigration, labor, and religion. Many students go on to law school, but LPS graduates can also be found in government, politics, advocacy, nonprofits, and more.

LPS is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences, the largest academic unit at Drake University. Students choose from a variety of majors, including several unique interdisciplinary programs. The student experience includes opportunities for community engagement, campus involvement, study abroad, and internships taken for course credit. Advanced students pursue their own research interests through independent study and senior capstone courses.

Job Summary:

The Law, Politics, and Society Program (LPS) at Drake University invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor to start August 2025. Successful candidates will have a Law and Society orientation, a commitment to interdisciplinarity, a strong scholarly agenda, and a commitment to undergraduate teaching. Ability to teach an undergraduate course on the constitution and constitutional law is a plus. The field of specialization and disciplinary focus are open. PhD or advanced ABD required. Teaching load is 3:3 and includes courses in the core curriculum and electives in the candidate’s areas of interest and expertise.

We seek candidates for this position who have experience working with students from a diverse background and have a demonstrated commitment to inclusive learning. The search committee is particularly interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Minimum Qualifications:

PhD or Advanced ABD.

Ability to offer elective courses in personal areas of expertise.
