Job Summary:

  • MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center has a unique opportunity for an RN, BSN candidate who is interested in delivering patient care through remote bedside nursing from our new Virtual Command Center (VCC) located in the Medical Center. The ideal nurse will have inpatient nursing experience and a high degree of comfort working with technology. As a Virtual RN, you will assess and care for patients by leverage video conferencing to complete virtual nursing rounds from the new VCC. . This innovative approach to patient care limits your contact with contagious diseases, your patient’s exposure to additional illnesses, and decreases use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while still providing the same level of care to our patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide patients with virtual health assessments, treatment solutions from the Virtual Command Center

  • Create, implement, and monitor care plans in collaboration with other care teams

  • Comfortable with technology such as video conferencing and electronic charting

  • Think and act fast in emergency scenarios - Coordinate resources

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited Nursing Program or currently enrolled in program. Master’s degree in nursing as Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) preferred.Master’s degree in nursing as Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) accepted.Master’s degree in nursing as CNL preferred within no longer than 4 years, unless already has CNS degree. ​

  • ​​Possession of a current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.

  • ​Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.​

  • ​​Minimum of eight (8) years in clinical focus area required
