Robert Half Accountant in Detroit, Michigan
Description We are actively searching for an experienced Accountant to become a permanent member of our education-focused team in Detroit, Michigan. In this role, you will handle various accounting tasks, including maintaining the general ledger in accordance with GASB, reconciling bank statements, and preparing audit work papers. This role offers a contract to permanent employment opportunity.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the day-to-day cash flows of the Academy
• Provide accounting services critical for budget preparation
• Analyze and reconcile general ledger expenditure accounts as necessary
• Prepare accurate and punctual reports for relevant agencies in compliance with legal or school authorizer requirements
• Handle the reconciliation of all District Bank Statements monthly
• Perform reconciliation of all general ledger Balance Sheet accounts monthly
• Participate in the ongoing detail oriented growth provided by the District
• Engage in school/detail oriented and/or community organizations or events
• Monitor vouchers authorizing expenditure of funds
• Supervise all purchase requisitions
• Develop strategies to achieve organizational objectives
• Manage frequent change, delays, or unexpected events; adapt approach or method to best fit the situation
• Follow organizational policies and procedures, completing administrative tasks correctly and on time. Requirements • Proficient understanding and experience with General Ledger
• Proven ability in Financial Statement Preparation
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in an accounting role, preferably within the education sector
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Knowledge of accounting software and systems
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws regarding accounting, finances, and taxation.
