The Office of the Chief Financial Officer - Controllers division is accepting applications for an Accounting Technician IV position.

Position Summary

The Accounting Technician IV is an advanced level paraprofessional that requires nominal direction and supervision. Accounting Technicians provide support to budget personnel that perform technical budget and budget support functions. Accounting Technicians in this category require an understanding of automated financial management systems, standard budgetary terminology. Accounting Technicians as this level also require knowledge of a variety of budget functional areas and their relationships to other functions to research or investigate problems or errors that require reconciling and reconstructing incomplete information, conducting extensive and exhaustive searches for required information, or performing actions of similar complexity. Accounting Technicians IV also perform administrative and clerical duties and work with automated systems and software packages such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms and other office procedures and terminology.

Examples of Duties

The Accounting Technician IV performs a full range of administrative and budget support functions including but not limited to:

  • Provides support to computerized systems for budget development, budget execution and budget monitoring;

  • Reviews budgets and prepares budget documents;

  • Prepares, at the direction of a Budget Analyst, periodic activity and statistical reports for management;

  • Prepares, reviews, and analyzes, at the direction of a Budget Analyst, Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budgets; Prepares monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc financial analyses and reports to maintain expenditure control;

  • Coordinates, at the direction of a Budget Analyst, with the Office of Departmental Financial Services to ensure proper tracking and spending of finances;

  • Summarizes budgets, submits recommendations, and prepares reports for the recommendation of the approval or disapproval of funds requests;

  • Reviews and evaluates basic contract requirements for compliance with departmental policies; and

  • Ensures conformity with City Agency budgets.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

High School graduation or General Educational Development (GED) certificate. It is preferred that the high school coursework include some basic business or business-related classes, such as basic computer skills, software packages, bookkeeping, or other business-related coursework. Some positions may require an Associate's Degree or 50 college credit hours in business administration, finance or related field.

Experience

Three (3) years of experience involving budget or finance related work. Accounting Technician IV must demonstrate proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions.

License / Certificates

None.

Equivalency

Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS

City Employees Retirement System

As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;

  • At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

  • At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);

  • An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;

• Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
