Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Data Scientist (Analytics Center of Excellence) in Detroit, Michigan

We have an exciting Data Scientist opportunity availablein our Analytics Center of Excellence - the power hub of analytics for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM)! About the Role You will be working with various verticals within organization (e.g., actuaries, marketing, commercial, government and retail business etc.) to solve important business problems to provide a quality and affordable healthcare solutions for our customers and members. In this Data Scientist opportunity, you will: * Own/manage lifecycle of the 'data product' in collaboration with functional teams - define the problem, identify/integrate appropriate data sources, iteratively build analytics engine aligning with business goal, operationalize it, and when appropriate retire it. * Lead discussions with business stakeholders to crisply define what is often a vaguely articulated problem, assist them selecting solution approaches based on the ACOE (Analytics Center of Excellence) recommended analytics approaches considering pros/cons. * Work closely with ACOE engineering and Enterprise IT (Information Technology) teams to build and implement advanced analytics solutions in production system(s). * Manage junior data scientists within ACOE, providing project level oversight, technical expertise to contribute to successful project outcomes. * Provide mentorship and guidance to junior data scientists, fostering a nurturing environment for career growth. Please Note: Hybrid work structure, which requires working minimum 1-day per week on-site at our downtown Detroit office (we provide free parking that is within covered structure connected directly to our building). Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Operations Research, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or related field is required. Master's degree or PhD in related field is preferred. * A minimum of six (6) years of related work experience is required. * Previous experience programming (2 or more languages, including python) is required. * Previous experience working in the healthcare and/or consulting industry is preferred. * Advanced knowledge of big data platforms (i.e., Map/Reduce, YARN, HDFS, etc.), query building (i.e. PL/SQL, HIVE, Impala, SparkSQL, etc.), parallel compute frameworks, programming (i.e. R, Python, C, Java, etc.) and visualization tools (i.e. QlikView, Tableau, Web FOCUS, etc.). * Advanced statistical modeling skills (i.e., linear and non-linear regression, neural networks, logistic regression, decision trees, gradient boosting machines, support vector machines, random forests, etc.). * Strong knowledge of statistical testing techniques (i.e., odds-ratios, t-tests, chi-squared, ANOVA, etc.). * Experience with code version control systems (e.g., git/GitHub) is required. * Intermediate skills in Microsoft Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. * Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. * Experience in managing multiple data-science/analytics projects and leading discussions with business stakeholders. * Previous experience of building data products is preferred. * Demonstrable experience of elegantly applying mathematical/algorithmic concepts to solve real-world problems, e.g., greedy algorithm to solve scheduling problem etc. * Experience with Databricks platform is preferred. * Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
