Description

The Equal Employment Opportunity Coordinator will work under the direction of the Police Human Resources Director. This is an appointed position responsible for the administration of the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program to ensure that applicants and employees receive equal opportunities in employment and contracting activities regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Coordinator will receive complaints, determine their applicability under the complaint system, assign the complaint to the appropriate EEO liaison for review or investigation, and track the processing of complaints.

Special Note: This is an at-will appointment, and the candidate selected serves at the pleasure of the Chief of Police.

Examples of Duties

  • Help to create, implement, and maintain the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program

  • Gather, compile, analyze, and interpret data necessary for external (government) and internal EEO compliance, reporting, and monitoring. Data may include recruitment, hiring, terminations, promotions, disciplinary actions, salaries, applicant flows, transfers, and statistics

  • Plan, complete, and file required EEO and/or hostile workplace reports and documentation with government agencies

  • Use appropriate statistical software or tools to measure and monitor equal opportunity and civil rights plan compliance

  • Report survey results, statistics, and recommendations for corrective action to the director and other appropriate stakeholders

  • Address internal inquiries regarding civil rights and equal opportunity laws and regulations as appropriate based on the specialists expertise; refer sensitive issues and concerns to the appropriate investigative staff

  • Complete environmental audits of specified commands within the department

  • Pursuant to established documentation procedures, record discriminatory factors and corrective actions identified through investigations of employment practices or alleged violations

  • Ensure timely processing and review of complaints by coordinating, monitoring, and streamlining complaint procedures

  • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions on equal employment opportunity policies, anti-harassment and non-discrimination in the workplace, and other relevant topics tailored to the department's specific needs

  • Prepare activity reports, as required

  • Use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendars, e-mail, and database software when performing work assignments

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience is required

  • At least one year of specialized and related work, including preparing, implementing, or administering EEO action plans

  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is preferred

  • Employment Law proficiency is preferred

  • EEO certifications as either a Counselor or Investigator is preferred

    Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirements of this position.

Supplemental Information

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software

  • Expert knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements

  • Ability to think analytically and solve problems

  • Ability to prepare and facilitate EEO action plans

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

    Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATION, AND OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates considered for placement in this classification will be subject to a criminal background investigation based on the requirements of the position

RETIREMENT BENEFITS

City Employees Retirement System

As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;

  • At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

  • At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);

  • An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;

• Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
