R1 RCM Inpatient Coding Educator in Detroit, Michigan

As Our Inpatient Coding Educator, you will be responsible for developing and facilitating the coding education program for Inpatient Coder Associates. Every day you will administer training plans on an individual and group basis, work with quality assurance and compliance teams to determine training needed, maintain and monitor training plans for the staff and keep training material updated, relevant and engaging, and archived once completed. The coding educator will educate new and existing coders ensuring compliant coding. The training and education will include ICD-10-CM and PCS,IPPS, and other relevant state and federal laws and regulations. The coding educator will promote correct coding guidelines and coding initiatives to ensure standardization throughout the organization. To Thrive in this role the coding educator needs intermediate skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to deliver and teach complex coding concepts to small and large groups of coders and well as individuals. The coding educator needs to have demonstrated the ability to work well independently and in teams, possess good project management and problem-solving skills, have the ability to prioritize, multitask, work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while demonstrating critical thinking skills, strong leadership qualities, and good decision-making abilities. The coding educator needs working knowledge of the R1 Coding Manual, ICD-10-CM and PCS.

Please be advised, this is a remote role. The coding educator will work Monday through Friday with shift hours varying depending on business needs. Previous teaching or education experience is preferred but not required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of four years of experience in production coding

  • AAPC or AHIMA coding credential CIC or CCS (RHIA or RHIT may be considered)

Responsibilities:

  • Creating, Administering, implementing, and updating the overall coding Inpatient education program for coding associates

  • Actively working with the Manager of Coding Education, Senior Director of Coding Quality Management (and/or other members of those teams) to identify areas where focused education may be needed for all production coders and subsequently developing the curriculum and plan for educating all coders

  • Administering curriculum for coders to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for competency

  • Administering curriculum for newly hired coders to ensure proficiency and quality meets company standards

  • Providing "real world" coding experience for all coders prior to releasing any coder for production work

  • Tracking and managing all education activities for assigned sites and coding associates

  • Maintaining knowledge of all current coding regulatory guidelines and governmental updates and communicating those changes to current staff and leadership to support appropriate, compliant coding

  • Maintaining training collateral across multiple multimedia forums so that information is organized, highly presentable and updated.

  • Providing constructive review and feedback to assist in the development of instructional materials to include course plans, objectives, and evaluation tools

For this US-based position, the base pay range is $26.26 - $38.50 per hour . Individual pay is determined by role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
