Planate Management Group LLC Mechanical Design Engineer (Djibouti) in Detroit, Michigan

Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with technical support centers in South East Asia and East Africa, that provide program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will support multiple designs and/or construction projects ranging from an estimated construction cost of $20,00 to $15 million. You will be assigned to projects in different phases from concept development, plan review, and recommendations to construction support management and inspection services.

This position is in the proposal stage and if awarded the period of performance is until 2030 . If you are employed, you will get to enjoy the following benefits:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and provide input on conceptual designs, charrettes, designs, pre-final and final, submittals, shop drawings, and documents prepared by NAVFAC personnel, NAVFAC contracted A&E design firms, and other contracted firms

  • Assist the government in post-award design services and post-construction award services for design submittals, construction submittals, and shop drawings

  • Assist the government in developing estimates of quantities and cost estimates for construction projects

  • Provide general engineering support for projects that include but are not limited to: HVAC systems, industrial, energy monitoring, and HVAC controls, DoD fuel piping systems and storage facilities, mechanical utilities, plumbing, compressed air and gasses, energy systems, renewable energy systems, industrial processes, industrial ventilation systems, and commissioning

  • Provide independent, timely, and professional specialized mechanical engineering support, including cost engineering, for various construction and renovation projects

  • Offer consultation for planning, budgeting, designing, and construction of new and renovation projects

  • Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborate with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration

  • Develop engineering designs and plans for mechanical utility systems (e.g., HVAC, refrigeration) as part of complex construction projects

  • Serve as a recognized subject matter expert (SME) in mechanical engineering.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Must hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering issued by a U.S. state, commonwealth, territory, or the District of Columbia

  • Must be a U.S. Passport holder

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional mechanical engineering experience, focusing on code-compliant facilities design for new construction and renovation

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

  • Mastery of advanced mechanical engineering concepts and principles; familiarity with DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria, policy, industry codes, and standards

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and statutory requirements affecting mechanical engineering design throughout the NAVFAC AOR

  • Proficient in Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG), AutoCAD, mechanical engineering design and analysis software, Specs-In-Tact, Microsoft Office products, cost engineering software, and other applicable DoD computer systems

  • Comprehensive understanding of ASME standards, BPVC, ASHRAE standards, NFPA codes, SMACNA standards, IMC, IPC, and International Building Code

  • Ability to provide accurate cost estimates and evaluate contract change orders

  • Proficient in project management and planning techniques

  • Skilled in making oral presentations and producing written reports

  • Knowledge of safety policies and use of personal protective equipment.
