HEALTH & WELLNESS DEPARTMENT

PUBLIC HEALTH PROJECT COORDINATOR

REGISTERED DIETICIAN

The Registered Dietician / Registered Dietician Nutritionist is responsible for providing WIC nutrition services, including high-risk nutrition counseling participants in accordance with MDCH WIC Division policies and procedures.

Perform WIC certifications and recertification. Provide nutrition education, high-risk counseling, and follow-up based on identified needs. Develop care plans for high-risk clients. Responsible for approving Michigan WIC Special Formula Request Forms.

Complete all necessary documentation, audits, and reports as assigned by the team lead. Make appropriate client referrals to health care providers, community resources, social services, etc. Complete all required job-related training. Promote breastfeeding with clients.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities ( may perform other duties as assigned )

  • Proficient use of computer and software programs

  • Communicates effectively both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to use data sources and interpret information to make recommendations for program success.

  • Responsible for assigned chart audits/reports as assigned by the team lead or program manager.

  • Response during a public health emergency event is required for this position, including duties not normally performed.

  • Attends all applicable meetings, conferences, and trainings as needed and as appropriate.

  • Attend MDHHS WIC Division training as appropriate.

  • Maintain program standards that are consistent with MDHHS WIC Division policies and procedures.

  • Receive direction and other duties from WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications (required):

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree Public Health, Business Administration, Health Science Administration or other related field, with two years experience in community engagement, community organizing, and project coordination and implementation.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition. Community Health Nutrition of Dietetic Tecnician

  • Current registration with the Commission on Dietetics

  • Minimum of one year (1) of WIC experience

Equivalency

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Supplemental Information

Evaluation Plan

  • Interview: 70%

  • Evaluation of Training, Experience & Personal Qualifications: 30%

  • Total of Interview and Evaluation T.E.P: 100%

Additional points may be awarded for:

  • Veteran Points: 0 – 15 points

  • Detroit Residency Credit: 15 points

RETIREMENT BENEFITS

City Employees Retirement System

As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:

• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;

  • At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

  • At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.

• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);

  • An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
