Leggett & Platt, Incorporated Senior Hardware Engineer in Detroit, Michigan

We at Leggett & Platt Automotive are looking for a Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer to join our growing Automotive Team at our facility in Detroit, Michigan.  We are a multi-billion-dollar globally diversified company that designs and manufactures various engineered components and products. Our growing automotive business unit, which exceeds one billion dollars in sales, is comprised of four main product segments with operations on three continents.  Our customers include OEM and Tier 1 automotive companies.

In this role, you will report to the Electronics Core Product Development Engineering Manager and support the project team in research, design and development of electronic hardware including, requirements, architecture, schematic design, simulation, design for EMC, hardware layout and validation.  This position will be on a Hybrid schedule.

What you will be doing as a Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer?

  • Promote company vision/mission, beliefs, behaviours and safety vision to team members and acknowledge team members evidencing support.
  • Complete various engineering efforts to design, prototype and validate product design solutions in support of customer and internal core team timing requirements.
  • Maintain regular contact with team and systems integration engineering on technical issues, and complete efforts to ensure understanding of their needs by deriving hardware requirements from system requirements resulting in delivery of commitments from Leggett & Platt for a given design architecture.
  • Active participation in program core teams with proactive presentation of defined engineering deliverables defined in the APD portion of the C2P process.
  • Develop engineered product solutions to meet customer needs by creative use of core part designs and technologies by ensuring compliance to IPC and other regulatory standards, utilizing best practices such as WCCA, thermal, electrical and EMC simulations and other such standard tools.
  • Establish and maintain adequate records of technical information, process methods/standards, design and program details, and records to support/procure reliable patent actions.
  • Ensure products are reviewed for best practice from a Design for Excellence (DFX) perspective including Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Cost (DFC), Design for Testability (DFT), Design for Reliability (DFR) and Design for Ergonomics (DFE) to ensure design delivery to product targets.
