Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network Transportation Specialist in Detroit, Michigan

TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST

Under the general supervision of the Director of Grants and Community Engagement the Transportation Specialist will provide transportation services to individuals needing behavioral health care from their homes, hospitals, and other various locations in Wayne County.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates with the Crisis Traffic Coordinator via text or cell phone before entering the destination and upon leaving for safety and to be redeployed.
  • Inspects vehicle to ensure that it is in a clean and operable condition.
  • Completes inspection paperwork/checklists.
  • Reports the need for service or repair.
  • Ensures that vehicles are scheduled for routine maintenance as required.
  • Transports clients and DWIHN employees to and from locations.
  • Washes and cleans the interior of the vehicle; fuels the vehicle.
  • Maintains accurate records of work performed.
  • Maps out driving routes ahead of time to determine the most expedient trip.
  • Follows all traffic laws.
  • Drives defensively to ensure safety.
  • Keeps accurate records of gas usage, miles, and other data.
  • Maintains DWIHN property (including radio, map books, car seats, etc.).
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA'S):

  • Knowledge of DWIHN policies, procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of the DWIHN provider network and community resources.
  • Knowledge of basic Crisis Operations principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of basic Mobile Crisis Operations.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance.
  • Knowledge of defensive driving or other advanced driving techniques.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year of full-time paid professional experience operating a van, shuttle, or commercial vehicle transporting persons or materials with a Chauffeurs or CDL Class A or B license.

     

REQUIRED LICENSE(S).

A valid State of Michigan Chauffeurs or CDL Class A or B License with a safe and acceptable driving record.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Employees in this classification must travel throughout Wayne County.  Candidates will be required to travel to homes, community-based settings, hospitals, schools, courts, etc.  

 

Mobile Crisis Operations is a 24/7 unit.   Candidates must be able to work a variety of shifts.
