Job Posting Summary
The Department of Natural Sciences at Mercy University is seeking a passionate and experienced Physics instructor to join our adjunct faculty for the Spring 2025 term.
Responsibilities include teaching one section of Physics for Life Science II and lab (fully in-person) at our Dobbs Ferry campus. The course is an integrated lab and lecture course focusing on contexts and applications tailored to degree tracks pre-physical therapy and exercise science. This is an opportunity to join the School of Health and Natural Sciences with undergraduate programs in biology, clinical laboratory science, health science, communication disorders, exercise science, occupational therapy assistant (AAS degree), and veterinary technology as well as 4 accredited graduate health professional programs (communication disorders, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies). Salary and rank are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience:
Experience teaching Introductory Physics for Life Sciences (IPLS) style lectures and/or laboratories to undergraduate students strongly preferred
Candidates with a record of excellent teaching at the undergraduate level are strongly preferred
Experience with PASCO data collection technologies and software is strongly preferred
Experience with IPLS specific instructional materials, curricula, and activities is preferred
Commitment to working with a diverse population of undergraduate students
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills required
Strong computer skills required
Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly with BlackBoard, as well as teleconferencing software, particularly Zoom and BlackBoard Collaborate, strongly preferred
Education Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Physics or a related discipline, preferred; M.S. in Physics or a related discipline, required

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:
Deferred Compensation Plan
All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.
Defined Contribution Plan
Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.
If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
