Job Posting Summary

  • Will act as the Head Coach if the head coach is unavailable for practice and/or games

  • Develop a recruiting plan for the program, which includes travel to off campus tournaments during the summer months to evaluate student athletes and develop itineraries for on campus visits for prospective student athletes and their family members

  • Assist the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport

  • Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keep the head Coach informed of the athletic performance of the students

  • Maintain a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering. (For both head coach and athletic director)

  • Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach of that sport and assists with determining game strategy

  • Assist the head Coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition

  • Attending all staff meetings and carrying out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach

  • Model sport-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators

  • Arrive 15 minutes before practice, 60 minutes before contests and meetings to adequately prepare and remain long enough afterwards to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions

  • Help in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs. Attendance should be consistent

  • Never criticize, admonish, or argue with head coach or any staff member within ears or eyes of players or parents

  • Never leave practices, games, or any other contest where a student’s attendance is requested until the last student has left

  • Perform other such duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the head coach

  • Successful completion of the NCAA certification exam

  • Committed to compliance with the NCAA, East Coast Conference and Mercy College policies and regulations

  • Submission of all required requests / paperwork

  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse population of student athletes and coaches in a cultural climate that celebrates diversity

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
