General Motors 2025 Summer Intern - Strategy & Innovation - Software Developer in Dover, Delaware

Work Arrangement :

Remote OR Hybrid: This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, or Milford, you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.

What You’ll Do:

For this developer role within General Motors, you are responsible for developing software applications using sound, repeatable, industry standard methodologies. You will work hands-on writing software or solutions, based on detailed requirements and system specifications. Additionally, you will work with development activities will include:

Updating existing software and/or developing new software solutions to address a specific need or solve a particular business problem. You will contribute to all development activities in accordance with appropriate methodologies and application of a repeatable, systematic, and quantifiable approach to the development process. You will develop your skill further by working closely with more senior developers to ensure code alignment with design patterns/frameworks.

  • Collaborate with senior developers and engineers to design and develop web applications using React and JavaScript.

  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient Python code for backend services and data processing.

  • Work on data ingestion, transformation, and analytics using Big Data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or similar frameworks.

  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality code and performance optimization.

  • Assist in the integration of front-end and back-end components to create seamless user experiences.

  • Learn and implement best practices in software development, including version control, continuous integration, and deployment.

  • Contribute to the documentation of software designs, processes, and user guides.

*Required Qualifications:   *

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Must be graduating between May 2026 - May 2028.

  • Proficiency in Python, with a solid understanding of its application in web development and data processing.

  • Experience with front-end technologies, particularly React and JavaScript.

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Familiarity with Big Data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or others is a plus.

  • Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Azure.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • A passion for learning new technologies and staying updated with industry trends.

Start dates for this internship role are May & June of 2025.

Compensation:

  • The salary range for this role is $4,400-$6,800, dependent upon class status and degree.

  • GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program.
